  • In the version where you come back as a chicken or a bug... how do you work your way back up? By being a reeealy kind and thoughtful chicken?

Edit: Or who'se to say, I guess. Maybe the bug is the most sublime existence and that's the "top".

  • Seems like "Christianity" and "following Jesus' teachings, words, and example" are completely at odds. I appreciate what you are saying. Why don't we hear Jesus Followers calling out "Christians" more vocally and often? I'd expect more of a break in the church at this point, but it seems like a fairly united front to me even now.

  • Neither is what Apple is doing and I guess thats my point. How much higher tech to people reasonably need or want in their pocket? Is innovation for its own sake really innovation? They are just remarketing existing tech as features without a demand.

  • I think innovations in phones are going to go the other direction honestly. Bringing back shit like eink displays, batteries that last days, fuck it, am/fm... New consumer tech is outpacing the users needs. I see a touch of old standards making a comeback. Hell how old is USB-C?

  • If it is the landlord's primary home then they should not be lumped in. Renting out a room to help pay mortgage on the home you live in is not the problem. It's the second homes, the third, fourth, tenth, hundredth homes where it is an issues, and I do think we can lump all of those together. They are using our limited housing supply as a portfolio piece, inserting themselves as profit-driven middle-men and making it less attainable for lower income families.

Entities that buy and own homes purely for "investment" at any scale are the problem. For-profit housing should not exist at any level. Want to own a second home and rent it out to cover the costs? Sure, but require that it be a non-profit.

  • For-profit housing is a massive racket. Investment firms posing as housing developers get tax breaks for buying up properties, inflating the market, pricing out families, and renting those same homes back to the community to pay the mortgage on their investment, plus profit. What fucking purpose do they serve society? Pure predatory capitalist greed at the expense of our housing. For-profit housing needs to be banned. Investment real estate needs to be regulated until all our citizens can afford to buy homes in their localities.

  • The question should be why does everyone else make so little. Seriously, if $350,000 is the expected pay after up to 12 years of higher-education and residency, then someone with a 4-year degree should be making about $110,000, which would be slightly double what minimum wage should be ($25 an hour) if it kept up with cost of living and inflation. This is what a prosperous country should expect.
