  • Ok, thanks for the info. HMD should add this info to its product page.

  • It does not according to GSMArena

Edit: The video shared by OP and other reviews mention it. The official product page does not. ¯(ツ)

  • Everything is accurate except the headphone jack part. I checked GSMArena for info.

Apparently, it does have a headphone jack.

  • Loads fine on Fennec fdroid. It even translated the page from French to English. Consider reporting this bug to ironfox folks.

  • Pixel 8A should be a good upgrade for you. It also supports grapheneOS so you should be up and running in no time.

  • A scummy move by Xiaomi. Even with google and SOC manufacturers making it easier to update devices. We have Manufacturers pulling this move.

  • Parental control software like Adguard or Adguard DNS family protection, filter out NSFW content like this website. A website doesn't even need to do a thing for it to work.

  • If I have learned anything about safety features. They probably do.

  • Yeah, this change (scoped storage) is annoying. You need adb, root or system level apps to bypass the requirement. File access is also slow. That's the reason image loading and image deletion is slow in Google Photos app compared to the native gallery app of my smartphone.

Anyway, the trend is clear. More security for the end user. You can root, flash a custom rom, or use a linux based smartphone if you do not like the restrictions. It's more friction but that's not going to change for the better.

  • Yeah, the author and people are fussing over without reason. Regular users do not understand the implication of sideloading apps. I have had people get their telegram/whatsapp hacked because someone sent them a malicious link and they sent their login credentials to that website/app.

Restricting sensitive permissions will mean such people are better protected from such mistakes. Advanced users can still bypass the requirements even though it may be slightly complicated.

  • IMO it doesn't go far enough with deblobbing and removing nonfree software, but for the time being i'll switch to it. Hope someone continues this project.

Who goes far enough in deblobbing?

  • In colorOS smartphones you have the old fullscreen google lens function which can be accessed from the Smart Sidebar.

  • This would be an awesome feature. It should be made available on other devices like Circle to search.

  • Hmm... I don't think it's part of the pixel launcher, because I've been using it with Lawnchair for years.

Your default system launcher is responsible for the recents screen. That's the reason you notice jank, bugs less smooth animations when using 3rd party launchers.

I've installed the pixel launcher and it hasn't shown up as an option again yet.

It needs to be integrated in your system for it to work. Plus, you may need additional google apps for the text recognition and selection function. You can ask the GrapheneOS developers for this feature. They may be able to do something at the System level.

  • You could use something like tasker or another floating gesture app to trigger Circle To Search.

But either way that's not the function I was thinking of. What's the one on the task view that lets you select text or images? Or is there another way to invoke the "select text or images on the screen" functionality?

That's the Select function in overview on Pixel smartphone. You would need the Pixel Launcher for this function. But, it may or may not work in GrapheneOS

  • The play store link does not work and the fdroid app was last updated in 2021.
