  • I often think of the Olympic skier that was interviewed by NPR a few years ago. She described how the boys around her were encouraged to do riskier jumps, whereas when she'd bring it up coaches, parents etc would all express concern about "what if you get hurt?"

There are a lot of social factors I think we should consider before writing women off as inherently lesser in competitive sports. We don't know how many women are held back by these narratives if they aren't even given the chance. Even if it's the case now, I really wonder how much is purely biological

  • I remember reading a few years ago that the US postal service was looking into using it for voting. I haven't seen anything about it since, but it did peak my interest. I'd love to see it used for research if possible, too, but then I can barely understand these decentralized social media platforms so my opinion isn't worth much with tech

  • I follow mainly therapists and pet behaviorists on TikTok so my take is the teaching thrives through regular user engagement. I can imagine a teacher letting students know they have a page and getting their start that way, too. It has its risks but it's really helped supplement my education.

  • ...if you knew the context you wouldn't be writing out disinformation. He said that wealthy people being taxed at higher rates would not fundamentally change their lifestyle, which is true. Someone making 500k and being taxed 20% would not see a substantial change if it raised to 30, 40, even 50%.

    So he agrees with you.

    Cheers.

  • Even traveling. I forget the stat I heard years ago but iirc it was a majority of people hadn't even travelled outside of that. Which I get to some extent since most people live in cities, but having been raised in the middle of nowhere misery it's necessary to travel more than 20 miles just to get to a damn grocery store. Once I had a car myself I was road tripping constantly

  • Depends on the country. At least around 2020 I'd heard from my sister in Australia that they were trying to incentivize people in the industry to get work visas. It's hard to get citizenship there though iirc

  • Imma be honest, half my communication involves emojis on discord. Jeb with his arms up is part of my personality now and I won't apologize. When I started seeing someone a few weeks ago I had to explain that he's missing out on half of my personality by texting. I substitute by jebbing in person but it's just not the same 😔

(and yes, Jeb has become a verb)

  • Omfg please, as someone on the border of Kansas but it's illegal in Missouri (as are all options for abortion, zero exceptions until it "threatens the life" of the person carrying*). Illinois is next closest over 4 hours away.

*Side note, why the fuck haven't lawyers used the approach that being forced to carry at all threatens the person carrying, therefore cruel and unusual? Being pregnant WILLINGLY is dangerous.
