  • There are two Lidl beans. The extra 10p for the ring pull one gets you more than just the convenience. :) Worth trying both though.

    Yaaarrrrns.

  • Yeah that makes a lot of sense in fairness.

  • I'm not sure if I'm alone in this but I have a terrible aversion to transcoding. I know the loss of quality is probably not that huge (depending on the original codec) but I just can't bring myself to get past it.

As a result I have a tiny arm based box with a 2tb SSD and I'm happy out.

  • That non stacking thing annoys the piss out of me haha. It's such a small thing and it's deliberate to make the tin look bigger but it just means they're taking up more space in the cupboard for lack of stacking or falling over if you do.

Also not a huge Heinz fan. Like they're not bad don't get me wrong but definitely agree on the watery-ness.

The most popular one here is probably Bachelor's which has a thicker, richer sauce though I'm fond enough of the Lidl own brand one. That is definitely partly down to price. They're ridiculously cheap and very decent with a fry especially if you warm them slowly to soften them.

  • I thought Heinz was the gold standard in the UK. I must try the Branston ones. Flippin' love that pickle.

Don't think I've ever seen them in the supermarket in Ireland but my sister's visiting from the UK on Sunday so I think I'll place an order.

  • That's huge. Congratulations!

  • I'm not sure he has the power to just impose tarrifs unilaterally. His excuse was the drugs and border for Canada which allows him to use some obscure law from the 70s to claim an emergency but that doesn't apply to Europe is my (limited) understanding.

  • Seems like we're getting our tariffs soon too. Gobshite. Wonder what his excuse will be for us since it's not going to be drugs or borders.

One way to offset the damage would be for the EU and Canada / Mexico to start trading more.

  • Absolutely loving the fire from you guys in the comments in the various threads. 🇮🇪❤️🇨🇦

  • The EU wouldn't take us.

I'd actually love to have Canada in the EU. Not sure if the rules would allow it and there would definitely be issues around standards but I feel like most Europeans would be me more than open to the notion.

  • Street fighter 2 - hyper fighting edition (arcade).

Played this every day after school for years as did a huge portion of my school.

  • That's a fantastic watch. Many thanks.

  • I....I could? Humans are weird and wonderful creatures.

  • I can think myself into immediately stopping hiccups.

I can also puke on demand.

  • Which Irish tea?

Barry's gold blend is the business IMO.

  • Hahaha. I'm laughing here because immediately after posting I was like "shit.... I'm going to be asked for that recipe" and it's really late here but I'll tell you what....I'll fling it up tomorrow.

The whole thing takes me a few hours and it's quite involved but I get two dinners out of it for 7 humans when you include the lady across the street so it's worth the effort.

  • I have an example and a suggestion.

There's an old lady living across the street from us. We've been living here for twenty years and her partner passed away there about two years ago. I want her to not feel alone and I know she really loves my beef stew (I honestly make a savage beef stew) so when I make some I get one of our kids (who she knows since they were born) to drop some over to her. She always drops back the bowl with like some fruit in it. I considered saying not to but I actually feel like she likes the reciprocity. Anyway if you get a nice smell coming from that lady's place some day, drop that in to the conversation. She'll remember and you'll get some great food then there's balance.

Another way is for it to "just happen" in a silent way. Just say nothing after you've done it and gently refuse payment but put the kindness on her.

"Oh no, I'm happy to do it. You're very kind to offer but I absolutely couldn't. Thank you though. You're very kind."

That way she won't feel indebted.

  • Haha. I'm not a huge brown sauce aficionado myself but HP is the gold standard in the UK and Chef is the big one in Ireland is my understanding. If there's any British or Irish shops near you or even supermarket sections they'll have it.

It's like a more savoury ketchup I suppose. Bit more bite to it too. The thoughts of it in tea though. Jaysus. Just no.

  • If you don't mind me asking, are you from a part of the world where brown sauce is a thing?

    I'm laughing here.

  • Wildly late but your comment did cause me to rewatch Intermission. What a great flick. The opening scene had stuck with me from before because it's so well done but the brown sauce bit was amazing and overall it's such a fun watch.
