  • Why so many people think being smart means getting phd's and good job/money?

Good job, phd's require discipline not smartness and often being attractive gets you better confidence/charisma, thats far far more important for getting good money or recognition than smartness

  • What you are talking about is machine learning which is called AI. What the post is talking about is LLMs which are also called AI.

AI by definition means anything that exhibits intelligent behavior and it is not natural in nature.

So when you use GMaps to find the shortest path between 2 points that's also AI (specifically called local search).

It is pointless to argue/discuss AI if nobody even know which type they are specifically talking about.

  • We all are disagreeing on the naming not the functionality. It used to be the case that names in tech were descriptive, just by reading it out loud you can understand the tech (e,g. SQL, OOP etc.).

"Serverless" is a marketing term. A better name would be "server agnostic deployment" or many many other ways to describe it.

The fact is, this name was created by the people selling it not the people using it. And i am sure the idea is not new, but the serverless name tries to make it seem like a comparatively recent thing so people would buy it more.

  • AfD is not just anti-immigration, it is anti-immigrants. Anti- immigration is a fake facade to hide their racism behind.

Unfortunately, pretty much all German parties now have a similar anti-immigration stance but ask yourself this, is it "anti-immigration" to deport people living in a country for almost a decade or is it "anti-immigrants"? Cuz when assad regime fell, the first thing that comes to their mind is deporting syrian refugees.

  • This is what happens when a technical field gets infiltrated by business bros. Remember how openai was talking about AGI helping humanity or smth? Their definition of AGI was leaked recently, its "making $100 billion profit".

That's it, thats what will help humanity achieve its true potential, by openai making $100b in profits.

  • Why is everyone enjoying a model that is open and very cheap instead of paying an exorbitant amount to US based "open" AI company? And that's even after the freedom loving US government put sanctions on exporting hardwares?

Do people really hate "open" and "free" AI so much?

  • He had a website to help women escape Saudi arabia, due to state oppression. He had issues with German state not doing much to stop the spread of islam in germany. He claimed Germany is enabling "islamization of europe".

For context, in may 2024 there was a anti-islam rally, and a refugee tried to attack them and ended up attacking a police officer and killing him. This culminated in a historic rise of anti-islam and anti-immigrant AfD. And they won the state election in Thuringia in September.

Germany currently has federal elections in February, this attack was an attempt to incite anti-islam sentiment again just before the election.

He was pro-immigrant for ex-muslims, but anti-immigrant for muslim ones (which happen to be the majority).

  • Yeah its crazy. But at the same time this isn't the first time a right wing nut job tried to do something like this. Lately there has been a general increase in far-right sickos taking it out on either jews or muslims.

This attack looks to me as an attempt to antagonize muslims in the eyes of christians. And especially the timing of the attack (just before the German election) imo shows that he planned to do it in advance.

Hopefully, more things will uncover as time passes by because the guy was an absolute idiot. I just hope this doesn't affect the election results too much cuz otherwise he would win in his motives.

  • He is but he hated other immigrants more for being muslim. If you look at his twitter bio, he blames germany for "islamization of europe". So doing a terrorist attack just before german election, he probably wanted an anti-immigrant (which islamophobes often hide behind) party to gain support. And that is exactly what happened, AfD were some of the first ones to call out the attack as "enough is enough".

  • Maybe to increase religious tensions? He was very anti-muslim, and hated germany for enabling "islamization of europe".

So probably in his mind, if he, being saudi, were to attack a christian related event just before the election, it would snowball into some anti-muslim winning election thus him getting what he wanted.

  • The article didn't but for context german elections are happening in a couple months. I think the perpetrator wanted to portray immigrants as bad or that immigrants are attacking german values/culture.

The attacker was an ex-muslim, pro afd and anti-islam, and anti-immigrant activist.

In many ways, he was similar to the person you replied to.

Edit: you know whats funny? If this attacker was pro islam, you would see it in the headline
