Not all older tech are necessarily worse. An LTO-9 tape can also store 18TB of data per tape. It's still sold today and great for archival.

Other cheaper, less error prone tech usually gets mass market penetration. But I am happy that massive storage niche tech is still there.

SimpleX is very neat. But it cannot do multiple devices unless you count shutting down, exporting database to new device replacing existing database as a sensible workflow. Using the database on two devices at once will break encryption and cause all sorts of weird problems.

Youtube 2012 loaded in 1 second on a 5MBit line. HTML, CSS and JS for a page was a few hundred kilobytes.

You can profile the current "responsive" version in your browser. It might not look horrible but it's a technical abomination. I doubt it'll even load anymore in a browser from 2012.

I think they started with cards. Poker and other card games. I remember that they still sell them, at least the hanafuda cards.

There are two that work pretty well. Yuzu and Ryujinx. A while ago some games only worked on one or the other. Thanks to open source they both improved dramatically.

Only bad thing really about it is Denuvo (properly implemented it doesn't make the game run like garbage, but I still like to run my game whenever I want without online verification and excessive load times). I might buy it when it's DRM free on GOG and discounted.

It has Denuvo, and runs like crap even on $1500 hardware.

I don't know what kind of sales they expected when they don't test it on lower spec PCs.

Total Commander is a godsend. I don't know how people use Windows or Android without it.
