Starsector, Rise to Ruins and Project Zomboid run well and are made in Java for example. It's harder to pull off but it can be done. (still needs native libraries though)
Ah, the HP Omen that uses mostly standard components and might be decent but has a coked up marketing team that makes me trust the brand by driving me insane.
Making security not a joke blessed us with crap like safedisc, securom, secure boot, denuvo, TPM, Pluton, Widevine, HDCP and more heinous crap. I think I can live without.
The only good thing is the UAC prompt. That one makes sense. Doesn't protect any of your important files, but keeps windows from killing itself. Sometimes.
Worked with my 76 year old dad. He happily does all of his stuff on Manjaro. Vivaldi looks like on Windows. And Kodi is even better than the satellite TV crap he had on Windows.
Oh you can totally erase and reuse the tapes. Depending on the tape software you can also rewrite parts or replace older files with incremental updates. It just really takes a while of rewinding. And the noise it makes is kinda retro...
