  • It has been years, but there was this whole easter egg thing about when you dive off a certain spot into the pool in her mansion she gets back out naked. They always put in a bunch of different easter egg challenges in her house.

  • He was describing American football players/teams as thugs. It is not meant with race in mind at all. For a little context there was some big argument going on the TV and the American team was throwing a hissy fit and screaming at the officials.

Edit, to add: Rugby can be quite violent, but the players have some respect for the game and officials. I don't really follow sports, but I found Rugby fascinating when I was over there! What a neat game.

  • I still don't believe it, at least not where I live. Once you have someone in your friend group get murdered, for no good fucking reason, it becomes harder to pretend everything is ok. It doesn't help that the local news reports another stabbing or shooting most days of the week.

  • Thank you for being an awesome parent! I buried a lot of trauma from elementary, and having their "guidance" counselor forced on me made it worse. This person actually told me I was a compulsive liar and went on and on and on. A lot of bad shit happened to me and I have had issues with pretty much every female therapist of any sorts.

There was also a sort of traveling counselor who would visit the elementary schools sometimes, but was based out of one of the middle schools. He was awesome and had real credentials. I was so happy he was at the middle school I went to and that I could talk to him sometimes. He was very short, gentle, and did everything he could to put himself on the same level as the kids he was trying to help. If you just needed a safe space to quietly play with dumb toys you were "too old" to play with, his office was open.

Anyways, give your kiddo a hug for me, if they are cool with that. Don't ever let her forget her self worth. Keep reminding her that she has a voice and that you can really say no to things.

The best complement I ever received was that I was a force of nature.

  • This. Ignition isn't that expensive and is cross platform. You can even run it in docker. I understand wanting free, but when it comes to industry, sometimes paying a few bucks for less hell later down the line is worth it.

  • I ended up getting it from them directly. I am on Android 90% of the time and don't pay for the license from the Apple store. No idea if that one is a single device or the same as the multi-device. I tend to not do things from the Apple store as I don't have an iPhone and they seem to want or assume you have one. Just like I can never use their watch (not that I want one).

  • I use AdGuard both on my Android phone and iPad. Not quite as good on the iPad because Apple doesn't make it easy, but definitely makes a huge difference. For me, $30 a year is worth it and you can use it on 3 devices. I got sick of the ads in apps that were downright disturbing in some cases and reporting them didn't do a whole lot. Browser extensions can do a lot more to tidy up the experience, but I will take what I can get.

  • I gave Manjaro a shot recently and Bluetooth was 90% unusable for anything but my mouse. Keyboard? Nope. Headset? Nope. Other headset? Nope. Bluetooth speaker? Nope. Unfortunately, it is a brand new Intel motherboard, so I can't even get WiFi as athk12 or whatever isn't really done. I was shocked I could get bluetooth to work at all. Sound wasn't that great through a USB headset either, but then I could at least hear people. For me, I can really only use trackballs now and the USB port on the mouse is for charging only. Bluetooth compatibility is very very important to me and it still being shitty on any system in 2024 blows my damn mind.

Only other potential issue would be something with how Proxmox is doing passthrough, but I had just as much trouble pairing with Debian underneath through the terminal as I did with the Manjaro VM. On another note, the GPU passthrough is amazing and I had a good time playing games for the first time on Linux. This machine was never intended for gaming, but I thought it would be fun to take a server to a LAN party. Sliger case for the win! Just a 3U.

  • When I was young, I participated in the primaries for Obama's first election (Texas...). I was more or less put in my damn place by the older members and not allowed to have an opinion. It was Hillary this or that and racist comments otherwise. Seriously, Gen Y & Z need to participate, vote, and get involved at the primary and electoral college level or nothing is ever going to change. Don't let those assholes decide who gets to run. I really really wonder what kind of impact those votes, in the areas that have true primaries, will have if we step up early.

  • I knew the phones and older devices had not, but I didn't think there were newish models of the iPads that hadn't switched to USB-C like the Pro line did.

I seriously love it. I can use the USB4/Thunderbolt ports to connect to my Dell monitor that includes PD (power delivery) and have 1 cable for everything. All of the ports for a keyboard, flash drives, Ethernet, whatever are on the monitor.

  • I do not understand the whole bathroom thing either. I hate it when women try to talk to me in the bathroom. I do not understand why I have to go to the bathroom with them either and I certainly don't need a minder. I could understand maybe at a club or something if they genuinely didn't feel safe, but always just boggles my mind.

Also, fuck those overpowering auto fragrance sprayers that set my allergies off.

  • Huh? Both my M1 air and iPad Pro only use USB-C. Do some of the iPads still use Apple's lightning? These are the only two apple products I own, so I have never had any other connector. Except for a couple random items (stupid mouse), everything I own can use the same charger. Packing and traveling is so much easier.

  • I feel like you and Linus Torvalds should be in the same room. Thank you for writing this. My Wi-Fi doesn't work either and Bluetooth is a half assed mess that only seems to work with my mouse and nothing else. I don't have time for that shit.

  • While I am not super tall, I am heavy. The one time I got to fly international first class was the first and only time I could sleep on a plane. I got a nice large bourbon, fluffy comforter, pillow, and burrito-ed myself in that pod. It was utterly glorious. I was glad that I wasn't paying for it... Was something around 4k for a 5-6 hour flight.

If the flight is international and sufficiently long, getting better seats is worth it. Better food. Free booze. Lounge access (it depends...). More space. If the price is right, get first.

  • Your right. I was thinking about my job that runs 480VAC. Either way, testing for interference and noise when you run into issues can go a long way. I am just glad that, to my knowledge, CAT 7 is one standard with everything shielded. CAT 6 had so many variations and most packaging and online portals would not even tell you which ones they were using in the first place. Almost as bad as USB-C connectors.I gave up and ordered some short CAT 7 patch cables for the server so I wouldn't stress over it. Ended up being a little cheaper than a lot of the cat 6 sets too.
