  • I mentioned the recovery time in my comment, and that I took a step back from dancing for my knees, so I’m not sure why you’re assuming I don’t take care of myself. My doctors are of the opinion that I’m doing everything I can, but maybe you’ve got an extra insight.

  • Nah, I teach adult immigrants, so if they don’t show up, that’s their business. As for time, I don’t know that I really consider that math.

Either way, counting and time are two things that republicans politicians also have to do, tallying up the votes in congress and figuring out exactly how long they can draw that process out. At some point, I suspect they’ll give up vote tallying, but we’re not there quite yet.

  • I like math quite a lot, but I don’t really use it in my job as a language teacher. I guess there’s a small amount of addition and division in grading, but there are also programs that automatically do that for you.

  • They didn’t deny the genocide, but asked why that’s relevant. Jewish people are separate from Israel, even though Israel wants to muddy the waters. It’s like blaming all of Christianity for the holocaust because hitler wanted to put a Christian veneer on it.

  • That’s a fun ratio of votes. Do people not know about the wedding drone strike or is it just that he’s polite and people don’t want to say anything bad about him? He also ordered a strike that killed a sixteen year old citizen.

Was he better than trump? Yes. That doesn’t mean he’s beyond reproach.

  • This is heavily dependent on your genetics. It sounds like you’re pretty lucky in addition to taking care of yourself, congrats! I had to take a step back from dancing around 27, because I kept injuring my knees, even with sufficient training, musculature, and recovery time built in. It’s now been several years and I’m okay, but I simply cannot be as active as I want to be (tbf, I was dancing for 14 hours a week, but I had the time and energy for it. I still do, but my knees complain 🤷)

  • Lucky the USA allows everyone to vote no matter what; doesn’t schedule it for a standard workday, meaning nobody has to choose between feeding their kids and voting; plans out enough polling stations so that people don’t have to wait for hours without access to food, water, or seating; doesn’t surprise deregister voters with little notice; and sends out absentee ballots reliably with sufficient time to return them…

  • I know I have some strong biases that lean towards peace, and I'm confused sometimes why a comment of mine in the fediverse gathers double digit upvotes steadily only to plummet to the negatives overnight. I get old reddit botnet vibes on some topics.

That’s probably time zones. I’m in Europe, and I’ve noticed that if I post something that’s not in line with mainline American thinking, I’ll wake up to a bunch of downvotes. The same could be true for Oceania/Asia or Europe/africa, depending on where you are.

  • No right wing parties in Germany? I wish. Luckily, musk seems to be driving people away from afd (though bsw and fw are still problematic af), but I’m not holding out hope that they’re not just staying quiet out of shame. I guess we’ll see in a few weeks.

Edit: I can’t believe I forgot about the cxu, which is historically the most popular party and getting ever friendlier with the far right.

  • There are examples of women’s contributions to science, philosophy, government, and arts throughout history (Hypatia, Boudicca, Cleopatra, Hildegard von Bingen, Iaia, Queen of Sheba Makeda, Wu Zeitan, Queen Victoria, etc.). Most of those women were either religiously celibate or widowed young, which allowed them to “respectably” act as individuals. Had they been married to men who lived longer, I think we probably wouldn’t know their stories. My suspicion is that (the mostly male) historians simply overlooked women at best, and actively suppressed their roles in history or attributed their work to their husbands at worst.

The major world religions have played a huge role in our understanding of the world, given that most scholars whose work we still have access to were in some way affiliated with Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Platonism or Zoroastrianism. Every single one of those religions was, at least at one point, dominated by a patriarchal cultural mindset (though interestingly, most of them started out relatively egalitarian).

    Note to self, don't marry.

I mean, you’re not wrong, but that carries a different risk. (sorry about the source, but it’s relatively comprehensive)
