  • Language makes a poor heuristic for intelligence because language is multidimensional and cannot be easily quantified or qualified. Language is expressed in so many varied ways. It is even different between cultures and expressions of language even vary as well. Indeed the article you're referring to is quite good.

  • It might help to let us know what your immediate needs are and then we could make recommendations. I am an open source, Linux, and BSD guy and have been working with these systems for close to 25 years. If you need solution, I can probably come up with one for you to try that won't be terribly difficult to implement with a little patience.

  • I would spend the day with my loved ones reminding them of what great people they are and then passing with dignity. I do not fear death because the Buddhist philosophy taught me to embrace the here and now. Yesterday already happened and tomorrow is not a given. Today matters.

  • It is very possible to do this! What you need to do is to rent a low-end cloud VPS. Even a 5.00 digital ocean droplet running Ubuntu Linux would do the trick. Then you run an NGINX Proxy Manager reverse proxy with a WireGuard tunnel to the machine that will act as a server for your instance. From there you, you simply set up Let's Encrypt certificates to use with your intended domain. Even though I am not behind CGNAT, I do this and it works very well.

EDIT: If you intend to do this entirely in open source and need some help, I'll offer it. I am pretty passionate about open source and helping others out along the way.

  • That could very well be the case and I could be wrong. I kind of operated under the assumption that Chromebooks are heavily locked down.

  • Dude! I forgot about oat crunch cheerios. They're the bomb.

  • I have to shamelessly plug for Arch Linux here. I think Arch would be a great way to get into the more advanced side of Linux without quite delving into the complexities of LFS.

  • The best thing you can actually do is be there for him right now. Be like a big brother or an uncle to him. I so admire you for caring. Take that capacity for empathy and caring and apply it to this child. Ask him what his interests are and help nurture them. I would be careful with getting involved in medical needs, therapy, etc. Those are dangerous and dicey waters to wade into and the only reason to get involved that deeply is if you believe this child's welfare is in immediate and imminent danger. If this is does become the case, please contact the proper responsible state agency. A situation like I just mentioned would open the door for you to become a foster parent. You are a good human being and to be commended!

  • It's funny but I've observed that myself. A lot of my posts are simply favorited which doesn't mean a whole lot because all it is doing is telling the author of the post that you simply like it. By boosting the post, you're telling the author that not only do you like it, but the post contains useful information, a great philosophy, or even material you could somehow relate to.

  • Honestly that's pretty good too. While I actually prefer Lenovo to Dell, I found that using a 7050 SFF was actually less expensive than the Lenovo one for what I needed it to do.

  • The only reason it would make sense to return to the moon is to establish a base for exploration of Mars. I go really back and forth on space exploration. On one hand it is a giant money pit. On another, the research that has come out of space exploration has been beneficial to life here on earth.

  • That's really interesting but I am curious what waste products the bacteria excrete from the metabolic process of digestion. I hope the waste products from the bacteria are actually useful.

EDIT: Okay, so CO2 is produced by the bacteria. I also read more carefully and the study suggests that we produce more refuse plastic than the bacteria can consume.

  • That's a good unit! The fuser assembly in that one is bulletproof. I won't recommend or buy anything except for Brother laser printers.

  • Good question! Mine is honey nut cheerios.

  • If I had to hazard a guess people are becoming desensitized to all of the doom and gloom because it keeps being shoved in our face for advertising dollars by mainstream media.

  • I swear by Brother printers. They work well with open source software. Older ones are dumb as a rock and it's easy to find toner for them. They're also workhorses.

  • I think my vote is going to OPNsense running on an OptiPlex 7050 small form factor. Just throw a dual port half height network card and you've got a pretty decent routing solution.

  • Musk cannot even pay for the office space that he is leasing. What makes anyone that he will pay for your legal bills? What shit crock.
