Company dredged Yukon River during salmon spawning season: inspection report

  • The reverse is also true? Israel is carrying out a policy of colonization against the Palestinians, and the Israeli public knows this. A policy which has lead to a very one sided body count. Does that mean the Israeli civilians killed recently were, in fact, valid targets? Of course not. Only a psychopath would say so.

And, in turn, only a psychopath would try to justify the collective punishment being carried out against Palestinians.

  • Arched back is an issue when squatting or dead lifting or other movements with significant vertical load on the back. Not the case with bench pressing. Bouncing out of a squat is also perfectly safe.

  • I don't agree. Arching your back is technique. Using your biomechanics to achieve a more efficient lift. This is like claiming utilizing the bounce out of the bottom of a squat is cheating.

  • Doesn't it seem like the stronghold mentality is somewhat self defeating, though? I'm also in BC and there's not much evidence of French culture around here, it's true. I'm more likely to encounter Tagalog or Mandarin than French, and would have more opportunity to speak those if learned, but not because those languages are indigenous to the area.

  • The goalposts are and remain in the same place: Israel is in the process of committing war crimes against the Palestinian people. What you call 'moving the goalposts' I call countering your deflections from this obvious fact.

  • This situation was avoidable by ending apartheid. It was unavoidable within the framework of continuing Israel's colonization project.

As for leaflets, that is a crock of shit. It completely ignores the actual logistics of moving the civilian population out of the area. Covering their ass so they can deny their murderous intent, as I said. No rational person sees that as anything else.

  • Gaza is without power. How exactly is the warning for this oh-so-humanitarian bombing campaign being broadcast? And you think the residents of the area will have the discipline to form up and get out successfully? Israel is bombing civilians, knows they are going to bomb civilians, and intends to bomb civilians and this "warning" is ass-covering so they can deny their murderous intent later.

And Israel's support for Hamas has been ongoing.

    https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-10-11/ty-article/.premium/netanyahu-needed-a-strong-hamas/0000018b-1e9f-d47b-a7fb-bfdfd8f30000 (archive link)

But the deep roots of the feasibility of the murderous assault by the Islamist nationalist phalangists from the prison that is Gaza on Israeli citizens should actually be sought in an earlier period of Benjamin Netanyahu’s time in office as prime minister – prior to his criminal trial and his alliance with nationalist Kahanists and the judicial coup, back when he was considered “level-headed” and “rational” and “responsible.”

That’s because since he took office as prime minister a second time in 2009, that same Netanyahu developed and advanced a destructive, warped political doctrine that held that strengthening Hamas at the expense of the Palestinian Authority would be good for Israel.

The purpose of the doctrine was to perpetuate the rift between Hamas in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. That would preserve the diplomatic paralysis and forever remove the “danger” of negotiations with the Palestinians over the partition of Israel into two states – on the argument that the Palestinian Authority doesn’t represent all the Palestinians.

  • "For something this big, Albertans deserve the benefit of a rational, adult conversation."

And we are going to make one of the central premises of this rational, adult conversation that Alberta is owed over half the CPP's fund.

    Please.

    Better headline:

"UCP wants to raid CPP to feed more money into O&G."

  • Quite the opposite. I feel the same as you, both sides should be allowed to stay. What's done is done and ethnically cleansing the area is obviously a horrific crime that oughtn't be advocated for in either direction. Where we differ is that I see the two state solution as setting the region up for the same conflict down the road. After decades of settlement the areas which would make up the Palestinian state would be non-contiguous swiss cheese. It would be an untenable situation.

Instead, a singular, secular, egalitarian state with universal suffrage and human rights guaranteed for all would be a challenging path, but I think ultimately a more stable one. And a path which would leave room for healing in the future.

  • Islam hadn't even come about at that time, however, so people casting it as a religious war between Jews and Muslims come across as especially disingenuous if they try to frame it that way. Hell, the Romans hadn't even Christianized at that time. Is it a war between Judaism and Paganism? C'mon.
