  • Postmedia now sells not just native ads but even news coverage and space on its opinion pages for those willing to pay, as a Canadaland investigation revealed in 2020. Its business model, as my recent book The Postmedia Effect shows, is simply to rake in as much cash as possible from all available sources in order to keep sending tens of millions of dollars a year in payments on its massive debt south to its US hedge fund owners/bondholders.

Lay off your journalists and sell preferential coverage to whichever organizations need to sanitize their message seems to be Postmedia's current business model. It's a lot cheaper when the stories come to you, I suppose.

  • Biden’s comments were offensive, Begin said. Suddenly he [Biden] said: “What did you do in Lebanon? You annihilated what you annihilated.”

I was certain, recounted Begin, that this was a continuation of his attack against us, but Biden continued: “It was great! It had to be done! If attacks were launched from Canada into the United States, everyone here would have said, ‘Attack all the cities of Canada, and we don’t care if all the civilians get killed.’”

  • The headline is not technically correct.

“Right now it’s serious. It’s really bad. If you look at the overall area of the sea ice, the area is almost one million square kilometres less than the previous lowest which was in 1986.”

It suggests that the ice had receded to a degree not seen since 1986, when in fact it's quite a lot worse.

  • "This message is for Dr. Ben Thomson. Remove your post regarding Israel," a man's voice is heard saying in the recording. "It is disgusting, you are a disgusting human being, you do not know what you're saying, and if you do not remove it, I advise you and the rest of your staff to stay out of your office."

I wonder if these people ever stop for a moment to consider whether they might be the bad guy?

  • Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, Dinesh D'Souza, and Peter Hitchens among names you may have heard of.

As well as an endless supply of idiots on web forums throughout the last 30+ years.

This is the right's favourite lie to distance themselves from the natural end result of their ideology.

  • Seeing as the government considers deflation to be not an option, the only practical fix to the crisis is a general wage gain across the entire workforce equivalent to the inflation we've been seeing the past couple of years. More, really, seeing as inequality had been growing prior to the pandemic as well. Prices are not going to go down. And if deflation is threatening to occur, the government will move heaven and earth to stop that from happening. Ergo, wages need to go up.

Or maybe we could move away from this irrational system, but one step at a time, I suppose.

  • This is an easy slam dunk for Trudeau, honestly.

    A) Every province that is not Alberta is obviously not going to look kindly on Alberta attempting to steal 53% of the CPP fund. Trudeau is running federally and isn't popular in Alberta anyways so, you know, duh. Easy fight to take on.

    B) Any rational person in Alberta who sees that number is going to have their scam alarm going off. Too good to be true isn't the half of it. Many will still go for it because their team is proposing it, but I think even in Alberta this won't be popular.

  • Proton has changed things pretty significantly over the last few years in this regard. Gaming should be a much more pleasant experience when you do decide you want to give it another go.
