  • This isn't a conflict that was going on in the Ottoman period. This is a recent conflict and this attempt to turn it into a thousands year old religious war is bullshit. This is a colonial project where the goal is to take land. Very material in nature. That project has been in place since 1948.

  • Absolutely. In much the same way that public private partnerships are a giveaway to private interests. Current day government looks to save a few dollars by outsourcing development to a private interest. However, thanks to inflation the money saved is worth less every year, while the actual, real world things which are now owned by some rich asshole are not subject to that same depreciation, and probably even appreciates over time.

  • It can often cost more to go to a place that doesn’t tip than the value of the tip.

    Sure sounds like your ideal situations is to go to tipping places but not tip to save yourself money at the expense of a working person. Go eat at McDonalds, they don't do tips.

  • I found this article which seems to be about the same strike, though it's from July. I'm not familiar enough with SSESA to know their situation and why there was so much time between the strike mandate and the strike but I imagine there must have been some ongoing negotiation that recently broke down.
