Ynet is considered center-left by Israeli standards. They oppose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, such as this Naftali Bennett: The right-wing millionaire who may end Netanyahu era and support the left-leaning labor party Isaac Herzog elected 11th president of State of Israel.

A review of numerous articles reveals them to be fact-based with a left-leaning bias. Ynet is also used as a reference for fact-checkers.

Overall, we rate Ynetnews as Left-Center Biased based on editorial positions that moderately favor the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact-check record. (D. Van Zandt 5/19/2017) Updated (12/08/2023)

  • I agree, and want to applaud you for saying this even considering my own contributions to discussion down the comments that were not relevant to the article. It is a duty in my opinion to counter misinformation where it is.

I wanted to say this myself but opted not to (based on perhaps unfounded fears of how it would be received), and I regret not doing so sooner. Thank you for pointing this out.

  • I 100% understand the backdrop to these quotes. There is nothing good there.

    https://www.memri.org/reports/iranian-supreme-leader-ali-khamenei-tweets-death-israel-seven-times-instructs-followers

On June 15, 2024, as the Hajj pilgrimage takes place in Mecca, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei published on his X account a post featuring the Iranian regime slogan "Death to Israel" seven times – seven being the number of times pilgrims walk around the Kaaba in Mecca during Hajj.

Khamenei prefaced the repeated "Death to Israel" with the phrase "We answer Your call, Oh Allah, we answer Your call." This is uttered by Hajj pilgrims as an expression of total submission to Allah and His will.

  • In addition, there are objectively more sites damaged or destroyed in Ukraine.

    https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/damaged-cultural-sites-ukraine-verified-unesco

As of 16 October 2024 UNESCO has verified damage to 457 sites since 24 February 2022 – 143 religious sites, 231 buildings of historical and/or artistic interest, 32 museums, 33 monuments, 17 libraries, 1 archive.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destruction_of_cultural_heritage_during_the_Israeli_invasion_of_the_Gaza_Strip

The Palestinian Ministry of Culture has published reports on the impact of the war on Gaza's cultural heritage. As of February 2024, they report that 44 people involved with arts and culture were killed and around 200 historic buildings were damaged or destroyed, along with 12 museums and numerous cultural centres.

The posted article also confirms this comparison.

Russia's air defenses are being stretched, putting the country in a position where it has to decide what to protect.

Air defenses have been one of the most crucial pieces of weaponry in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and both sides have been using them to defend against drone and missile attacks and to stop each other's aircraft from flying into their air space.

But because of Ukraine's successful strikes and recent tactics, Russia now has to decide where to put its air defenses.

And that's giving Ukraine new opportunities to target weaker areas, warfare experts have told Business Insider.

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated seven individuals in connection with Hizballah and its financial firm, Al-Qard al-Hassan (AQAH). AQAH, which was designated by OFAC in 2007, is used by Hizballah as a cover to manage the terrorist group’s financial activities and gain access to the international financial system. Ibrahim Ali Daher (Daher) serves as the Chief of Hizballah’s Central Finance Unit, which oversees Hizballah’s overall budget and spending, including the group’s funding of its terrorist operations and killing of the group’s opponents. The other six individuals designated today used the cover of personal accounts at certain Lebanese banks, including U.S.-designated Jammal Trust Bank (JTB), to evade sanctions targeting AQAH and transfer approximately half a billion U.S. dollars on behalf of AQAH.

“From the highest levels of Hizballah’s financial apparatus to working level individuals, Hizballah continues to abuse the Lebanese financial sector and drain Lebanon’s financial resources at an already dire time,” said Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control Andrea Gacki. “Such actions demonstrate Hizballah’s disregard for financial stability, transparency, or accountability in Lebanon.”

While AQAH purports to serve the Lebanese people, in practice it illicitly moves funds through shell accounts and facilitators, exposing Lebanese financial institutions to possible sanctions. AQAH masquerades as a non-governmental organization (NGO) under the cover of a Ministry of Interior-granted NGO license, providing services characteristic of a bank in support of Hizballah while evading proper licensing and regulatory supervision. By hoarding hard currency that is desperately needed by the Lebanese economy, AQAH allows Hizballah to build its own support base and compromise the stability of the Lebanese state. AQAH has taken on a more prominent role in Hizballah’s financial infrastructure over the years, and designated Hizballah-linked entities and individuals have evaded sanctions and maintained bank accounts by re-registering them in the names of senior AQAH officials, including under the names of certain individuals being designated today.

  • Straight from the Ayatollah's rhetoric, thought that sounded familiar.

    https://5pillarsuk.com/2024/10/04/ayatollah-khamenei-calls-for-muslim-unity-in-fight-against-israel/

Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, addressed Friday prayers in Tehran today, calling for Muslim unity in response to the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, which he characterised as America’s “rabid dog” in the region.

    https://www.tehrantimes.com/news/498130/A-call-for-Hajj-of-disavowal

“The savage attacks of the rabid Zionist dogs on one side, and the resistance and oppression of the Gazans on the other side, will remain in history and guide mankind. The amazing and unprecedented effect that it has had in non-Islamic societies and universities of the U.S. and other countries, are proof of its history-making and significant nature.”

    https://www.brookings.edu/articles/oops-he-did-it-again-irans-supreme-leader-questions-the-holocaust/

There may be a simpler explanation; it may be that Iran’s ultimate authority harbors a vicious, conspiratorial, wicked — and oh yes, erroneous — view of the West. In fact, I made this same case back in November, when Khamenei presaged the signing of the interim nuclear accord with a scorching denunciation of the United States and Israel, in which he not only described the Israeli leadership as a “rabid dog” but also argued that Washington’s bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki postdated the war’s end and was merely an excuse to test nuclear weapons on civilians.

  • Correct.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezbollah

Hezbollah's 1985 manifesto outlined its key objectives, which include expelling Western influence from the region, destroying Israel, pledging allegiance to Iran's supreme leader, and establishing an Islamic government influenced by Iran's political ideology.

    https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/doctrine-hezbollah

Hezbollah rhetoric has made contradictory claims about its long-term goals. “We do not seek the application of Islam by force or violence, but by peaceful political action, which gives the majority in any society the opportunity to adopt or reject it. If Islam becomes the choice of the majority, then we will apply it. If not, we will continue to coexist and discuss with others until we reach a common ground based upon correct beliefs,” the organization said in 1998. But Nasrallah has also repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel. “It is an aggressive, illegal and illegitimate entity, which has no future in our land,” he said in 2005. “It’s destination is manifested in our motto, ‘Death to Israel’.” Hezbollah has also and angrily threatened to destroy U.S. “hegemony” in the Middle East. The military wing is tied to deadly attacks on two U.S. embassies and the Marine peacekeepers barracks in Lebanon as well as American targets in Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

What role has it played in Lebanese politics?

Hezbollah has been a fixture of the Lebanese government since 1992, when eight of its members were elected to Parliament, and the party has held cabinet positions since 2005. The party marked its integration into mainstream politics in 2009 with an updated manifesto that was less Islamist than its predecessor and called for “true democracy.” The most recent national elections, in 2022, saw Hezbollah maintain its 13 seats in Lebanon’s 128-member Parliament, though the party and its allies lost their majority.

Hezbollah essentially operates as a government in the areas under its control, and neither the military nor federal authorities can counter this, Arab Barometer analysts MaryClare Roche and Michael Robbins write for Foreign Affairs. It manages a vast network of social services that include infrastructure, health-care facilities, schools, and youth programs, all of which have been instrumental in garnering support for Hezbollah from Shiite and non-Shiite Lebanese alike. Even so, Arab Barometer polling in 2024 found that “despite Hezbollah’s significant influence in Lebanon, relatively few Lebanese support it.”

At the same time, Hezbollah maintains its military arm. Under the 1989 Taif Agreement, which was brokered by Saudi Arabia and Syria and ended Lebanon’s civil war, Hezbollah was the only militia allowed to keep its arms. Analyst and Brigadier General (Ret.) Assaf Orion, of Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, says Hezbollah possesses “a larger arsenal of artillery than most nations enjoy,” and a 2018 report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies called it “the world’s most heavily armed non-state actor.” In June 2024, experts speculated that Hezbollah has 150,000–200,000 rockets and missiles of various ranges.

Critics say Hezbollah’s existence violates UN Security Council Resolution 1559—adopted in 2004—which called for all Lebanese militias to disband and disarm. The UN Force in Lebanon (UNFIL), first deployed in 1978 to restore the central government’s authority, remains in the country and part of its mandate is to encourage Hezbollah to disarm.

  • I'm supposed to provide proof for my response to your claim, yet you aren't required to source your original claim of "Because they don’t want anyone to leave"? No no :)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof_(philosophy)

When two parties are in a discussion and one makes a claim that the other disputes, the one who makes the claim typically has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim, especially when it challenges a perceived status quo.[1] This is also stated in Hitchens's razor, which declares that "what may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence." Carl Sagan proposed a related criterion – "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" – which is known as the Sagan standard.[2]

    ...

One way in which one would attempt to shift the burden of proof is by committing a logical fallacy known as the argument from ignorance. It occurs when either a proposition is assumed to be true because it has not yet been proven false or a proposition is assumed to be false because it has not yet been proven true.[8][9]

I'm not going to be engaging with you now, or in the future. This is extraordinarily bad form, and a huge waste of time.

  • Wow, that was the entire conversation? Where was I getting this idea that you were claiming Israel would not let refugees leave to Egypt?

Oh, that was exactly what you said... "Because they don’t want anyone to leave."

And yes, I am. Because I read what you said.

  • I specifically asked you to quote me saying that there are no IDF troops at the border, and you failed to, and I reject you mischaracterizing my argument. You very specifically said "Because they don’t want anyone to leave." and have yet to provide evidence. Reframing your unsourced claim as "they can't cross a border due to an invading force controlling it" is disingenuous and in bad faith, and also not substantiated as it similarly implies without evidence Israel's intentions.

Thank you for posting another comment devoid of a source for your claims. The "source" you posted previously does not support your assertion of Israel's intentions. Injection of this is a strawman, followed by your unsubstantiated opinion of what it means to you personally. You have yet to prove Israel would not let refugees leave to Egypt.

I am in no way trolling.

  • You stating it doesn't make it true, that's where evidence comes in. I can state that Egypt's actions demonstrate the same, they could just walk away. And with just as much evidence as you provided.

I understand this is your personal opinion, and that there is no evidence supporting your claims of Israel's intentions to not let refugees leave, even to Egypt. I won't be continuing this discussion with you.
