  • Did you click the link?

Apple classifies a product as technologically obsolete once more than seven years have passed since the company stopped distributing it for sale. The original Apple Watch was discontinued in September 2016 ... so the first-generation models recently crossed that seven-year mark.

These devices haven't been sold in 7 years.

  • In NAS related software there's plenty of nice UIs to make a raid array. I'm guessing not many people bothered making it for "normal" OSes since the subset of people who want raid on a desktop, and people who aren't happy digging through the command line is pretty low.

  • How old is your machine? Starting 10 or so years ago, but really picked up the pace is "modern standby" or S0 standby. Basically in sleep your laptop doesn't go to sleep, it enters a "low power state" and even worse, keeps wifi on and tries to run background tasks. It's supposed to be quick to wake from sleep but it's not. S1 standby was incredibly fast to wake.

Literally the last thing I want my computer do do when in sleep is compute. I want it to use as little power as possible without dumping my ram.

  • The "Open source or die" nature of a lot of enthusiasts and distros doesn't help either.

If someone new installs debian on their machine and didn't know their wifi card needs proprietary drivers then they're kinda screwed unless they have another machine handy. Plus a lot of the time the open source driver will be worse for X but better for Y so now you have that conundrum.

  • IDK about you, but bluetooth works great on both my Macs and my Windows PCs. Most of my issues with bluetooth come from the device turning off to save power and I have to wait a bit for it to turn back on and reconnect.

  • The court heard that Kurtaj had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage.

A mental health assessment used as part of the sentencing hearing said he "continued to express the intent to return to cyber-crime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated."

I'm assuming that's why. Hopefully they can put his mind to good use because he seems to be talented and is clearly motivated.

  • Your company is abusing it’s employees. Imagine if it was something other than exercise how abusive it would be.

Except it's not, because it's exclusively about health. It's a discount health insurance companies offer to companies, and the company uses that money to encourage employees to be healthier.

  • Not all of these programs explicitly require running with no alternatives for people who can't run.

Most that I've seen are usually just based on "exercise minutes" depending on how your device tracks those. The Apple watch is really lenient and I get 50% of my daily goal just walking to work.

  • Or it's because insurance companies offer discounts for companies that offer these programs. The employer uses some (or all) of that money to encourage employees to be healthier which A. makes them healthier. B. saves the insurance company/insurance money. C. helps boost productivity. and D. makes everyone overall happier.
