It's entirely voluntarily (hence bonus), and has huge benefits for your self. I fail to see what the problem is.

My company does the same thing, and so do many others.

Your car is collecting so much more info about than just your contacts from bluetooth pairing and music taste.

Those would be the least of my concerns.

Both my desktop and my server are in Define R4s. Plenty of room, dead silent, and still good airflow for a silent case.

10+ years and they're still my favorite case, and I'd never want anything else.

Depends on the GPU. Usually the GPU just doesn't work at all. Some older models had a buzzer built in and would beep at incredibly loud volumes at you.

My old GTX 1080 would run just fine but with a 75 watt power cap. But that's more of an exception since the 10 series were so incredibly efficient. Some lower end cards might do the same thing.

What money stream? You can't buy it from them anymore. They only money they could make is from selling user data, and there's no reason they couldn't do that after dropping support.

You're not supposed to. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Nobody wants to spend the court costs to get a patent troll stripped of their bad patent. And for a patent troll you're going to need a lawyer, they're going to fight tooth and nail to keep it since that's their source of income.

Then a patent troll steals it and makes things worse for everyone.

Patenting something then immediately opening it up is by far the best option.

VMware makes it easy. You can live migrate a physical (or virtual) machine to VMware. Then just shut down the physical machine and turn on the VM. But apparently nothing like this exists for proxmox.

My biggest qualm with switching to proxmox is how painful it is to convert VMs. We have some VMs with multiple TBs of storage.

In order to move you have to install the drivers first, shut down the VM, copy the files over (slowly), convert the VM (takes forever even on a 6 drive NVME raid array), before creating a new VM with matching settings then booting and it finally will work. And if you forgot the drivers then you have to find a storage controller that works, boot up, install the driver, then shut down and change the settings.

Our friends have something similar. The biggest up side besides the obvious is that your house doesn’t reek of shit/litter. The smell is so much more reduced.

In terms of value old 10 gig is much better than new 5 gig and even 2.5. It’s just most 10 gig stuff has crazy loud fans and use a ton of power.

Honestly that’s one thing I don’t mind. It’s a pretty solid design and it works well so why make changes just for changes sake?

The biggest up side to 2.5 gig and 5 gig is that they can do their speeds on existing cat 5e and cat 6 cables at their full 100 meters. And I think 2.5 gig poe is dirt cheap. Outside of reusing existing cables WiFi 6 and 6e APs are their only real use since they can peak just over 1 gbit speeds.

Microsoft says it’s more secure. and that since it stays on its 100% the OSes control which is supposed to be much more secure”reliable” than S3 standby.

Nevermind that S0 standby is so incredibly buggy and awful on windows where it’s supposed to be best. My i9 Thinkpad drops 20% battery in 15 minutes, then goes into hibernation. It has a 50% chance of overheating in my bag and crashing when trying to get in to hibernation.

2.5 and 5 gig are also very much consumer grade speeds, and you don’t really find 48 port consumer grade switches. Enterprises largely don’t give a shit about 2.5 and 5 so there’s no demand to make something like that.

It’s not enforced in the US at all.

Just like how keeping to the right except to pass isn’t.
