  • I think this is a particularly nuanced position on the part of China. They are attempting to deflate Trump's political posturing. He could keep raising tariffs to make himself seem like a winner, so they chose to mock him and they backed that mockery up by saying we won't respond to this line of harassment anymore because we have maximally defenses against it. If Trump was only doing tariffs, this would be the end of it, but China is anticipating that without the ability to continue narrative manipulation via tariffs, the US could begin expanding its attack on China via non-tariff means (and likely is already preparing to do so). So, instead of saying that they are no longer playing the game, they are saying that they are no longer effected by this particular line of attack and that they will continue defending against any new lines of attack.

I don't know if they will take such actions to respond to further tariff hikes, but it seems like they might not.

  • FIRE makes up 20.7% of GDP.
IP-intensive industries make up 38% of GDP.

That means almost 60% of US GDP is artificially created markets.

Edit: I should add that these are not the only artificially constructed markets. Military contractors comes to mind, which another 3%. General government spending is 36%, but that's got overlap with FIRE, IP intensive industries, and the military.

I mean, it's shocking when you realize it. The vast majority of the GDP in the US isn't actually productive and isn't actually engaged in open market competition.

  • It is. I run mint 22.1 as well. The Mint team ended up with a pipewire version that was mostly contemporary but a Wireplumber version that was legacy. It made configuration a nightmare. Once I upgraded Wireplumber, I was able to actually configure it and all my problems went away

  • Mint 22 is on pipewire now. You need to get rid of pulseaudio, go with pipewire and the pipewire-pulse compat layer. I had major problems until I installed an upgraded Wireplumber to 0.5 from ppa:pipewire-debian/pipewire-upstream

After that, you may have further issues with your configuration, and I would start by looking at your syslog for errors indicating what might be happening.

  • No. UN and related independent NGOs have shown their cards. They cannot be trusted. ICANN is the quintessential example of an ossified vulturous bureaucracy laser focused on oligarchic control. And the ITU has designs to rewrite current Internet protocols to have a fee structure built in at the packet level to ensure no packed flow without someone paying money.

We cannot trust the systems we have now. We must focus on diversifying income sources for us to be safe

  • Cool. Now it's just getting her to come up with different options that are based on her unique characteristics. Not everyone is made for planning. Not everyone is made for coordination. Not everyone is made for todo lists. She needs to bring her wholeself - he needs to contribute his special powers to supporting her developing her special powers and vice versa.

  • It's unlikely. Remember that there's a lot of stage management going on at all times. Trump and his crew are not smart enough nor powerful to just suddenly end every active continuity program of the world's most brutal authoritarian state. A lot of what's going on is being supported by factions within the military, particularly military intelligence, and by the MIC. These forces have been working the system for decades and don't come and go with an election. Vibes tell me we have greater-than-even odds of this presidency being the last one that maintains the farce of legitimate elections.

  • Very light on details that I am very curious about: what does it mean that the aircraft lost its defensive protection? What was it targeted with? It almost sounds like it was a signals attack and not a kinetic one.

  • What a strange analysis. You think that the determinant of whether or not the USA is a world power is who is elected to a 4-year term? The USA still has 600+ military bases in 80+ countries, still has the world reserve currency, still has the influence over OPEC that requires it to trade oil in USD, still has ever world leader seriously considering their every word and deed through the lens of American hegemony.

What exactly about this election suddenly made America not a world power?
