  • Thanks, I’ll give it a try

  • It’s a bit hard to imagine how all AIs could break simultaneously. Nothing short of a full-on apocalypse, and then fixing AIs would be the least of humanity’s problems.

And I’d guess in the future there would always be some local/open-source/offline AI that might be able to recreate (or help recreate) larger systems.

  • Have you even opened the link? It’s in the freaking title, the study is about the impact on mentally ill people, and whether having a pet helps (apparently it doesn’t, but the sample size is quite small, so idk). Nothing to do with how animals are treated.

  • For those who use Mac/iOS, I really like the look and feel of Reeder, it’s been my go to rss client for years.

  • For the greater good!

  • Non, aucun lien (pour moi au moins). Mais une fête est une fête, alors pourquoi pas :)

Je n’ai pas de lien réel avec le Nouvel An non plus.

  • That’s a weird mix between 15 million merits and 1984. Holy shit. Makes me feel kinda uneasy

  • L’étendard sanglant est en retard,
mais il serait utile de le lever :)

  • Le jour de gloire est arrivé !

  • Idk, I’ve seen a couple of 70k+ payouts mentioned by far-right personalities in the other thread. But the checkmark thing probably adds to the overall effect

  • Their ads are going to appear in these discussions though, right? And it’s easy enough to screenshot. So I’d guess we’ll see a lot more of “hey BrandX, see, you’re sponsoring racism/sexism/genocide apology/etc.” discussions going forward.

  • I’m on kbin myself, and tech/news/similar communities seem to dominate the feed. Do you have similar large ones in your feed?

  • Isn’t this, like, on purpose? Controversy and hate drive engagement, and since Elon “you’re a pedo cuck” Musk doesn’t give a shit about discussion quality or morality issues, it’s pretty obvious why he’s gone for that.

I wonder what advertisers think though, and whether they’re ok with sharing their advertising budget this way. Just from a public image point of view alone it might be a problem for some, if not most large companies.

  • Are mass killings and mass shootings counted differently? Because I saw some news about there being like 17 mass shootings on 4th of July alone, and I thought US averages more than 1 mass shooting per day.

  • So I have a question for anyone who might know.

Is there any reason to go with low-pressure tunnels at all? For example, having a plexiglass tunnel at .5 atm doesn’t sound that dangerous to me, and it should be easier to build and maintain, but does it actually provide any irl benefit? Like what’s the production costs/train speed/energy savings relation here? What’s the highest low pressure that starts to make sense? Like, do you have to go down to .01 atm, or can .1 or .5 provide enough of a benefit? If not now, what kind of material advances might help?

Just curious about long-term feasibility of that whole thing.

  • With you on this. I don’t like current Lemmy/kbin sorting methods. Most of my subscribed feed is filled with like 5 top communities, but I’m actually interested in those so I don’t want to block them.

It would be great if posts from smaller communities were injected into the feed even if they don’t really meet the “hot” requirements.

  • C’est carrément une situation merdique, peu importe comment on voit ça. Ça fait très Moyen Âge, non ?

  • I mean, sure, let’s use it and have fun. No one is really arguing total bans. But you have to pay people when you use their likenesses. Otherwise, you know, Metahuman exists.

  • Honestly, I don’t think shame is applicable to corporations really. When you spread all the activity between hundreds and thousands of people, no one feels truly responsible for the company’s actions.

I’ve worked with/at some huge companies, and it’s not like CEOs or director boards are actively sitting and plotting genocides, while evilly laughing and curling their moustaches. They often don’t give a shit at all, they’d rather just chill on their yachts or whatever.

What happens is they set a guideline, like “we need X% amount of growth next year”. After that, managers start pitching ideas, product designers with their small teams compete for resources, someone somewhere finds a way to rise CTR or save some money here and there. But “let’s be evil lol #noshame” is nowhere to be seen. It’s just tiny ideas that are not that impactful on their own congregating into a vile mess.

That’s why regulations and high fines are so important. They help stop those ideas from being pitched.

  • Thanks for the link. It’s this line I presume:

It has been estimated that just one of these container ships, the length of around six football pitches, can produce the same amount of pollution as 50 million cars. The emissions from 15 of these mega-ships match those from all the cars in the world.

Which is of course a shit ton of emissions, but 15x50 million is 750 mln, and isn’t there like 1.5 bn actively driven cars? The math kinda doesn’t check out.

P.S. And again Americans with their football fields per furlong :) Why not at least mention something in actual units? I have no idea how big a football pitch is.
