  • You mean the cruise ships? Can you link to something about that? Cause I tried to google it and it seems like cars are still very much ahead of all the other transportation methods by pollution.

  • Only if you write it down on a piece of paper or save it in your notes. Guaranteeing longer passwords with a variety of different symbols does make the passwords stronger though.

  • Don’t have any extra suggestions, rotational monarchy that was mentioned in another comment sounds good to me.

Just wanted to say that I’m intrigued by your story setup :)

  • For me, it was a reoccurring nightmare that was more of a feeling than some story or vision. It’s really hard to explain, but it always followed the same pattern: I’m doing something (and not in a “doing” way, just some feeling of activity), then this activity somehow starts to speed up until it rushes at an unimaginable speed, and then suddenly comes the realization that this thing is endless and lasts forever, so the speed subsides leaving a lingering feeling of dread and despair.

I remember trying to describe it using this metaphor as a kid (again, nothing here is literal): I’m walking somewhere, first normally, and then speeding up, with walking morphing into an exhaustive and panicked run, until the realization that the destination is only getting further the faster you run hits, so I go back to walking, but feeling crushed at this realization.

I also remember describing or thinking about these dreams in other ways, like flipping through pages of some important book ever faster, until it dawns on me that the book is in fact infinite, for example. Or exerting more and more effort to think of some specific word until I realize that it doesn’t exist. Stuff like that.

Idk. It was such a weird thing.

  • Have you misread my comment or have we been visiting completely different internets? Most of the people who are against wealth inequality are happy to point that out.

  • Also, I think that the wealth disparity should decrease as much as possible, and the fact that that's what you got from my comments is just weird.

  • Ok, so googling it now, it seems like Indian space program has a budget of about $1,5 mln (holy shit they launched using that? I'm doubly impressed). I'm pretty sure that's just the cost of some couch in the Antilia building.

So I still fail to see your point. This is nothing compared to country's budget, not even a rounding error.

  • Ok, ideal is probably the wrong word here. What I meant is a world where narrowly focused efforts are actually fast and effective, it might be a good idea to heavily prioritise some stuff to deal with pressing misery-inducing issues faster. But as we currently are, that concept just isn't rooted in reality.

  • In that case you should formulate your thoughts more clearly. Right now it reads as exactly that — "stop wasting money on progressing in this field because look at thisproblem". So, what did you actually mean by your comment then?

  • "Let's stop all progress until we deal with insertyourproblemofchoice" has never been a good take, it stifles development without actually helping. In an ideal world that might work, but as is it just doesn't.

To add to that, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt that starving children in India is actually a mere money problem. It looks more like a wealth distribution problem, and that one doesn't get fixed by stopping space programs.

  • Congrats to India! Glad to see more space programs succeed.

  • One of the problems is the workforce itself. You need people to work in those plants, and for every German specialist in chip manufacturing, for example, you have hundreds of Chinese ones. It’s a long process of education and incentives, and even then you’ll get your stuff at a higher price, since the wages are higher.

Good idea in general, not easy or quick to implement.

  • Didn’t know about that. Why is it banned? Isn’t it safer than most alternatives too?

  • I’ve been there a couple of times from random search results. Haven’t browsed it since July 30th and honestly, I’m kinda surprised how little I care that I left.

  • Sodium cyclamate is a superior sweetener taste-wise anyway, nothing comes even close. And I’m prepared to die on that hill.

Why don’t brands use it I wonder?

  • A mix between water, cold-press/fresh juices, tea and soda. Whatever I feel like at the time.

  • Ah, makes sense I guess.

  • How come I never noticed that? That’s brilliant :)

  • Why imgur though, why not link directly to xkcd?
