  • It was created by some of the same people who made Lost. Both shows relied heavily on flashbacks to make the shows seem more planned out. Both relied on inconsistent mythologies to fake worldbuilding.

  • It should be possible to get the boot strap paradox out of the way and establish a stable time loop in which case the traveler just hands me a storage device full of everything I need to know to make a lot of money and establish a time travel research organization that will 50 years later send the traveler back to me.

  • I could see this fit in perfectly with normal bus routes, but field trips and athletic events could be a challenge, especially for rural schools. Nothing that could not be planned around but possibly an extra cost (e.g. charter buses) or needing to keep the kids entertained while charging on the road.

  • Same. We have dozens of M477s and M479s in production and few issues. Recently started deploying 4301s and so far so good. I bought an M479 on a good sale a few years ago for personal use and never had a problem. No mandatory subscription, hp account or any of that mess, and the toner lasts a long time. Not sure if it even will expire.

Many years ago we maintained a fleet of 4050s and 2200s (had to purchase parallel port add on cards to use those…) Those were rock solid for many years and very repairable, but at a certain point part availability and time lost doing repairs adds up and we had to move on.

  • Just yesterday I discovered the prices change depending on whether or not I'm logged in. Supposedly this only happens when there are multiple sellers and Amazon favors the ones that honor prime... but I could not find the lower priced seller anywhere when logged in. Now I'm wondering if prime actually increases shipping costs because vendors just raise their overall prices to cover it... very, very close to dropping prime this year.

  • You are lucky. Last night both Linus Torvalds and Bill Gates broke in my house and held me at gunpoint until I made my choice. (Tim Cook would have been there too, but apparently he was guided down the wrong street.)

  • Value is a weird concept. Even if mathematically the two stacks should have the same value, odds are some people will consider the $100 bill stack worth more, and be willing to do more in exchange for it. That effectively does make it worth more.

  • The 10 commandments divide into two sections. Rules for the relation between people and God and rules for the relation between people and other people. 5 more would probably setup a third section. Like rules for the relation between people and nature or rules for one’s relation to oneself.

    1. Forgive your brother who has wronged you as you would want him to forgive your own transgressions.
    2. Honor creation and take only what you need from the mountains, streams, woodlands, and valleys.
    3. Respect the creatures of the earth as your brothers in creation.
    4. Avoid excesses and live humbly
    5. Love yourself for you were created in My image
  • I’ve been pretty happy with the Ryobi 18 and 40 volt stuff. If I ever need anything fancier I’ll probably start investing in milwaukee. At some point I plan to invest into a tool storage system and milwaukee may win that decision…

For corded stuff, brand loyalty isn’t that useful. I have a dewalt portable/job site table saw I really like.

My jigsaw and circular saw are skil, so I could probably stand to upgrade, but they work well enough.

Just bought a kobalt powered screwdriver that uses usbc to charge and seems fine for household use (when a drill driver is not needed)

Still have an old dewalt drill on a dead battery platform that refuses to die.
