From what I recall the 1996 Atlanta games were profitable and left a generally positive legacy with most of the structures finding some sort of use.

That tracks. They are also far more concerned that someone might mention “gay” or use the “wrong” bathroom in our schools than they are about people bringing in guns and murdering students.

I'm told they dropped the seat requirements. Yeah $30 is the business rate. No discounts for education. I suspect the backend costs on this are still rather high but should improve once hardware catches up to demand.

I have not had a chance to test the office integrations (and the $30 price tag may keep it that way,) but I’ve been testing the web chat version, and once toggled to “precise” mode I find it close to chatgpt. Just a little more prone to lapse into acting like a bing chat app and very limited in conversation length…

I think the trick is to treat it like a junior assistant or maybe an intern who might make mistakes and not as a seasoned, experienced employee who always puts out perfect work.

This is why the Hubble telescope had mirror problems and James Webb was so delayed. The admins had to sneak delays into the simulation while they upgraded the hardware to render more of the universe.

I loved all of the Miyazaki films except The Wind Rises, which I found to be awful and boring. So I’m kind of afraid to watch this one. Is it more like his earlier work or more like the wind rises?

I think it might help to stabilize the region. If other countries that might want to attack Israel while they are distracted or even in defense of Gaza know that the US is still supporting them and providing weapons they will be less likely to do so. But of course that means there is basically nothing to stop Israel from finishing this genocide and Netanyahu knows it…

I used to try and genocide mos espa in the pc version. Even with cheats it was tricky because the game started to spawn in guards on the roofs armed with thermal detonators.

I had the same problem. Never noticed the drift until tears of the kingdom and then it made the game nearly unplayable. Decided to buy a pro controller only to discover it sold out nearly everywhere with many being sold online for scalper prices.

However, once I found one it was a game changer. The thing fits very well in my hands and works well. I don’t regret buying it, but will be pissed if it does not work with the next console.

I don’t disagree, but I’ve heard this before. Assembly devs complaining about compiled languages. C/c++ devs complaining about every newer language. Traditional devs complaining about web developers. Backend web developers complaining about blogs/cms tools. Nearly everyone complaining about electron.

And honestly I think those folks had a point. The old stuff written when the tools were simple and memory scarce were almost works of art. The quality of software development (especially with regard to optimization) has been going downhill for decades. What ever the llms do will just be part of this trend.

Am I missing something? To me this just seems like standard legalese to avoid petty lawsuits. The derivative works clause even give transcription as an example.

The moral objection part seems more strange but maybe it has something to do with playlists or tagging.

I’ve always assumed this is because english speaking anime culture has its roots in fan subs and “piracy”. The official English names only show up once it is licensed. Creates a bit of a language divide based on how the shows are watched.

Windows is everywhere but the Microsoft Surface products still have value to Microsoft. Or for that matter, Steam is everywhere but Valve still made the steam deck. There seems to be some value to software companies making hardware if only to help set the tone and introduce features or ideas they hope other companies who use their software will follow.

That said, I wonder if we won’t see the Xbox brand transition to software only with a line of gamer targeted Microsoft surfaces advertised as Xbox ready.

Not a new problem. Many years ago they released a server app to download and deploy updates to a businesses computers. They called it Windows Update Service, or WUS. A bit later they changed the name to Windows Server Update Service (WSUS). The FAQ on the name change noted the old name “did not accurately reflect the value of the software”

Even the iPod was entering an already established market (consider the Sony Walkman).

Although that is interesting… I found some stats and 385 million walkmans were sold over 30 years. About 10. Million per year. Another report claims 51 million VR headsets in the last 5 years or about 10 million per year… (I started this comment planing to be negative, but now I wonder if Apple is not hitting the market at just the right time…)

I doubt spotify's small price increase mattered as much as the big increase in overall living expenses. If the choice is between paying for services like spotify or paying rent, then it is a lot easier to pirate music than housing.
