/r/atheism often got cyberbullied for being a bunch of insufferable jerks.
I don’t believe in god but you would never find me any closer to hanging out in /r/atheism than any other actually religious subreddit.
I mean, I guess I don’t want to judge that much because of how a subreddit like that can be a place for people living in extremely oppressive/conservative christian communities to express their anger at being in such a suffocating environment, but it often seemed like the criticisms of religion from the sub were more of the “but akshually this part of believing in god is dumb” instead of more along the lines of “who cares if god exists, y’all are incredibly hateful”.
As an American, good, if Mexico actually gets money because of our stupid lazy impulse to focus on blaming other countries as the problem instead of improving ourselves; well that is a damn welcome change of pace for Mexico I reckon.
If you were in a Tom Clancy novel we would know it.
All the people around you would act like wooden placeholders for character archetypes.
If you See Something
Fix It Yourself and stop assuming in your entitlement that somebody else is going to screw the door back onto the plane.
It’s called personal responsibility.
Texas is going to get a violent crime wave from all the pathetic loser incel rightwing men who are too dumb to figure out a VPN and too hateful to get another living breathing human being interested in getting naked with them.
The news stories will break that the violence is done by brown skinned immigrants who fought through poverty, uncertainty, cartels and any number of hardships to just get their fucking foot over the door into a place they dreamt to call home come but it will come out over and over again that it was done by another nauseating, bigoted, white dude lowlife who turned straight to violence after he couldn’t break up hatespeech orgies on gab with bouts of watching stolen porn on pornhub, pounding his member while yelling sexist slurs at the very people creating content to give him the tiniest, tiniest moment of pleasure.
I think Texas is one of the dumbest places on earth. Not the people, not the human brains within the geographical borders of Texas but rather the very concept of Texas as a white identity, a white story with white facts and white narratives.
The US is already so dumb it is hard to comprehend, but like a roller coaster where you think it can bring you anyyyyyyyy higher into the realm of self delusion in the service of hate, Texas kicks in another chain lift and drags you up up up into the sky.
Ohh I played those so long ago during a really difficult time of my life, they were definitely a fun escape and the story felt well suited to a point and click.
Super smash bros only has like 90, I am dominating.
No doubt, though I would point to the US automakers being too busy being obsessed with annihilating worker power and unions over the last 50 years as the primary reason American cars suck. Instead of paying engineers to spend time innovating and improving their designs they paid harvard business assholes to micromanage workers and strategize how to shuffle vehicle plants around so that workers organizing for better treatment would be least likely to happen effectively.
Two things.
A really great goal for meditation or just mental health in general is trying to be conscious of the pleasantness of having an idea and desiring to do it or even just having the desire to do something before you have attached any higher level executive functioning type of thoughts and rationalized that desire within a framework of events and logic. Just try to enjoy the feeling without rushing to attach things to it. WAYYY harder said than done of course :)
Second thing, prioritize getting high quality time burying yourself in video games or whatever else you go to hyperfocus on and shut out the outside world. Set an alarm, play the video game and make yourself forget about all those anxieties hanging in your head about what you should actually be doing right now. Lean into your ability to get lost in a thing and trust the alarm. I am realizing if I don’t do this I just feel always exhausted from a thirst for stimulation, and often people are unfortunately disgusted or repulsed when they perceive how much stimulation my ADHD actually needs for me to feel balanced enough to become functional and adult.
I find that everyone in my life will frequently start to be disgusted by how much I am focusing on one thing to the exclusion of all others but those outside perspectives don’t understand no matter how much they say exactly how much I need those long stretches of meditative pursuit of a single thing in order to be functional or even remotely happy. As someone with ADHD unless you are really lucky, you have to hide how much time you spend doing this or there are very real social consequences (again it really doesn’t matter what people say they accept, people won’t accept you for it unless they have a mind like you). One of the best ways to do that is to just ensure the stimulation you are getting is high quality, distilled stimulation that fits best into your life.
From another perspective setting an alarm and leaning into a favorite hyperfocus is a great way to slow down the feeling of a day sliding by, it helps counteract one the worst consequences of time blindness which is just a general feeling that you are never actually arriving anywhere but just chasing after things you are behind on.
I use and am deeply in love with org mode, but Logseq looks a fantastic solution for many people and I am super happy when it gets mentioned in ADHD circles.
Yeah the Wolf Of Wall Street is such a weird work of art in that it is structured to display Wall Street as full of pathetic, power hungry losers but then the movie basically totally undercuts its political message by spending every scene trying to make Wall Street people as sexy and “virile” as they possibly can.
It ends up just making the people the movie is supposedly exposing as “villains” look super cool and enviable (that guy drove home fucked up and totally destroyed his lambo, damn that guy partied hard and is rich as fuck I want to be him!) to exactly the wrong kinds of people and I think because of that it is a really problematic work of art.
I distinctly remember the scene with the government official, who is trying to do right and stop the main character, riding on the subway and the subtext might as well be conveyed over a loudspeaker that this guy is the biggest loser in the whole movie.
Couple this fact with the movies general conclusion that “this is just how people are, we can’t stop it” and yeah I think you have a movie that can actually meaningfully further poison the brains of the kinds of people who are likely to go into finance anyways.
I mean I know all car companies are going to do this so this is a tangential point but why the hell would you buy an audi anyways?
Their reliability scores are fucking atrocious on audis.
The only thing german engineering is actually superior at is generating ultra rightwing nationalism.
Isn’t it amazing this capability was basically right there from the beginning of mobile gaming?
It really shows badly corporate business practices utterly destroyed the ability of mobile gaming to innovate and improve as a medium for years and years. We might as well be almost 10 years behind where we should be in the evolution of the mobile gaming scene and it is honestly appalling.
I am so glad we have options like your gamesir x2! I use an Xbox controller just because I already had one, actually for awhile I was using a wired Xbox 360 controller which would sometimes work for games that weren’t even designed with controller input because compatibility is so good with 360 controllers lol.
How do you like the joysticks and buttons on the gamesir?
I want you to remember this is a violence being done upon you by the healthcare industry and your employer.
You are a victim of violence here as sure as if someone had physically attacked you on the street, except the violence was premeditated, utterly unnecessary and hurtful in a way that doesn’t heal like bruises do.
Stay angry about that, not in a way that eats your heart away, but in a way that transmutes hopelessness into resistance.
From a logical standpoint, healthcare should see the fact that you found a therapist that works for you as a “WE FOUND THE NEEDLE IN THE HAYSTACK!” moment which is precisely not the moment you say “well we might as well throw this needle away and keep searching because we can just find another!”.
Gosh I don’t wish harm upon others easily, but it is hard not to feel like the people who make the decisions to structure society this way should be hurt very badly to the point that other people who want to commit similar atrocities would simply be too scared to try it even if they wanted to.
is this what cancel culture has come to?….
throws up hands in defeat
….People pointing out that it is potentially offensive to make disposable jokes about actual genocide and land theft of indigenous peoples just to make a lazy punchline!?!?
I might as well go cancel my dog next, nobody is safe.
Exactly an EV like this might actually be extremely practical for offroading as electric engines are so much simpler mechanically and you don't need complex transmissions like you need with gas engines. You can beat the shit out of it more and you have unlimited torque.
Or go smaller and have trailered EV polaris type vehicles that you can just plug in when you park them in your driveway/garage.
Yeah it is so stupid, but I mean so is the fact that there aren't car companies selling toyota yaris like EV vehicles for stupid cheap everywhere that aren't anything special but are even cheaper to run longterm than a yaris or honda fit. The usefulness of that type of vehicle is so incredibly obvious, but in the US at least battery refurbished and replacement of used EV batteries on say a 10 year old nissan leaf quickly outpaces the value of the vehicle. It doesn't make any logical sense to me and I hope that there starts to be a much bigger industry and the price drops quickly from companies taking perfectly good older nissan leaf type vehicles and putting a new battery in them.
Of course, taking a step back electric cars aren't the real answer, busses are (at least for most of the US).
Personally I think HP is missing the point focusing on putting drm on inkjet refills, it is only half committing to the business strategy.
The existence of a finished, printed paper begins at the moment of conception when the customer conceives of wanting to print a document. Really every step after that point (including the conception step itself) is monetizable by HP and more importantly rightfully owned as intellectual property of HP that you are technically stealing if you don’t follow through with actually printing the document on an HP printer.
HP is just leaving all of that money on the table, or maybe the printer market is just too heavily regulated for HP to innovate properly in a healthy free market.
