  • 6600 lbs is a fuckton of weight to be moving around off road in situations with soft ground where tires might sink into loose sediment/mud. It just doesn't make sense to build an offroad vehicle at that weight level unless you are only ever going to drive on rolling dirt forest service roads or on wide open arid and extremely firm terrain.

Yeah I know a big chunk of that is the battery, but that is the problem, if you want to design an actually capable electric offroad vehicle I think you need to start from the design standpoint that the platform needs to prioritize being lightweight, which directly points to a small old school wrangler type vehicle or to committing to a solution like the newest AWD toyota siennas that most efficiently makes use of the design constraints of having a large flat battery running along the base of the vehicle. I mean even those only weight 4800 lbs (though they are a hybrid not a dedicated EV and the battery isn't actually that big but you can imagine a similar vehicle with a much bigger one).

  • It makes me want to become an army recruiter for video game armies, instead of trying to sleazily recruit high school kids to go get murdered or maimed across the planet I use all the same rhetoric army recruiters use to make the the military seem cool but I recruit kids to play video games while dressed up in camo instead.

My pamphlets are of video games where you can do cool military stuff without actually killing anybody or getting hurt. Hey check out Arma 3, you can use all those cool looking jets and tanks to nerd out and blow stuff up and THEN when you are done you can just turn it off and go do something else because it’s a fantasy.

Framed on my table is a picture of Iraq after 20 years of brutal occupation and war with stats on the amount of civilians dead, infrastructure destroyed and American servicemen killed. Next to it is a framed picture of Blood Gulch after 20 years of brutal multiplayer matches with a bunch of zeros next to all the same stats.

I also have a “But I Want To Serve My Country” pamphlet which suggests types of jobs and careers that actually serve the country and local community like teacher, nurse, tradesman, social worker etc…

The poster behind my recruiting table says “Just Go Play A Video Game, Joining The Military Is Lame”.

This would be hilarious to do in character as a recruiter from Helldivers 2.

  • When we talk about political conservatives being opposed to biased LLMs, it’s mostly because it won’t tell them that their harmful beliefs are correct

"What because I think Islam is inherently a violent religion now this chatbot is telling me I AM the one with violent and harmful beliefs??????" - some loser, maybe elon musk or maybe your uncle, who cares.

  • Because anybody who has taken a couple of humanities classes, english classes, philosophy classes, journalism/political science classes or who has spent time critically evaluating art, historical accounts or really anything other than just numbers, code and spreadsheets.... understands intuitively that EVERYTHING human has bias.

It seems like a lot of conservatives and libertarians are jussssssst beginning to comprehend this and again and they want the conversation to be "BIAS BAD GET RID OF IT" because they are children who don't listen and want to throw a tantrum so we can't have an adult conversation with nuance.

We can't remove biases, believe me, human history is written with the countless stories of artists, scientists, kings, religious leaders... who all thought they could do shit like that. The point is you can't. Everything we create and do is biased, everything we create and make is political, these aren't absolutist statements meant to trivialize a critical nuanced conversation about bias or politics though. On the contrary I am calling attention to the vital nature of these topics as the actually HARD part of LLMs or social media. The programming, data manipulation, development of decentralized protocols etc... they are all nearly trivial details comparatively.

Computer science has to try to create imperfect solutions to the bias problem, but it would have a much easier time if it recognized how tiny this whole world of computer science still is compared to the immense amount of knowledge in the humanities produced by generations of artists and thinkers tackling the same problems.

We can't remove biases, but we still have to make better choices anyways.

  • So this is the problem with AI, if you add guardrails you’re a culture warrior 1984’ing the whole world,

No this isn’t really a problem with the technology, though of course LLMs are extremely flawed in fundamental ways, it is a problem with conservatives being babies and throwing massive tantrums about any guardrails being added even when they are next to cliffs with 200 foot drops.

Conservatives and libertarians (who control most of these companies) want to try to figure this all out for themselves and are hellbent on trying the “no moderation” strategy first and haven’t thought past that step. This is what conservatives and libertarians always do, they might as well be a character archetype in commedia dell'arte at this point.

We can’t have an adult conversation about racism, sexism, hate against trans people or really even the basic concept of systematic stereotypes and prejudices because conservatives refuse to stop running around screaming, making this a conversation with children where everything has to be extremely simplified and black and white and we have to patiently explain over and over again the basic concept of a systematic bias and argue that it even exists.

Then these same people turn around and vote for people who literally want to control what women do with their unfertilized eggs while they act with a straight face like they give af about individual liberties or freedoms.

LLMs are fundamentally vulnerable to bias, we have to design LLMs with that in mind and first and foremost carefully structure and curate the training data we train an LLM on so that bias is minimized. The very idea of even thinking about the complexities usually sends conservatives right to outbursts of “that sounds like tyranny!” because they honestly just don’t have any of the skill sets that say, a liberal arts education that values the humanities, might provide you that could allow you to think about how to best solve problems that can’t truly be fairly solved and require empathizing with different groups.

Of course, nobody who has the power at AI companies is thinking about this either but…

  • Go play Xonotic for awhile and you can bathe in buttery smoothness no matter the computer you are playing on. The computer could be your shoe in fact or the back of your hand, it will run at 60fps either way.

Yes you could feel sad it doesn’t have a larger player base and isn’t the new competitive shooter everyone is obsessed with but it is also true that Xonotic is like pure unfiltered reaction and adrenaline compared to almost any other shooter especially modern ones. If you want to feel that smoothness of motion Xonotic can give it to you in spades in the way only a quake derivative multiplayer fps can.

  • That’s not the case for a lot of people. When I was in middle school, I had the centrist position that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, as was the law at the time, but gays should have the right to form civil unions.

But because I’m not a literal child anymore, I realized it’s not going to work because conservatives will fight every right at every step so civil unions can’t be equal.

Honestly, high five, you just proved my point better than I could, I am just going to stop talking and let you keep talking!

  • The centrist position might now currently have shifted to not hating LGBTQ people, but it is also a misrepresentation to say that positive change came from a realization, capacity for intellectual agency, or evolution within the ideology of centrism rather than just a shifting calculus for where the perceived middle is on a particular issue.

In other words, centrists don't actually give af, they just realize it is probably not a good idea to be perceived as hating on the LGBTQ people so they just let go of their hate and adjust their position no problem. Yes, most of them no longer hate LGTBQ people in their hearts, but do I really give a fuck if they would as soon hate LGTBQ too if that better fit the calculus of the center?

If you want proof of this, just look to the colossal sea of centrist celebrities and media figures who appear to be utterly mystified by the seemingly arbitrary new rules that are always being made about what is offensive and what they can't say... and the even more colossal sea of normal people who triangulate their own opinions and views off of those figures. The popularization of the concept of "identity politics" is in a large way a forging of this nebulous, diffuse confusion over the reasons behind why culture is changing into a singular named entity that can be pointed at, blamed and thus minimized to comfort and give space to centrists struggling to keep up with memorizing the new scripts of respectability culture without any understanding of their meaning (that would render a memorization of the details unnecessary).

  • Also ninja stars are legitimately so much fun to throw around if you have a safe spot to do it where you won’t wreck anything if you miss.

They are like throwing knives without the fiddly part.

  • Ninja stars.

A good life hack is when you are being pursued place them into the ground in key spots where a pursuer might step.

Also work on throwing two ninja stars at once so you can increase DPS.

  • Hi Keith it’s your Mom’s friend Charen (pronounced with a hard Ch) she met at a weird multi-level marketing candle scheme she didn’t realize she was getting trapped into a miserable full length evening advertisement for (I should remember, I hosted it!).

I barely know you but I just wanted to raise awareness for my community Facebook group Leopards4FacesInNeed that connects vulnerable third world children with Christian Leopards.

Also stop smoking pot Keith, it is a SIN and I think talking about it publicly here as a thinly veiled attempt to shame you in a totally out of context fashion is totally appropriate and it’s not like I am going to face any consequences so maybe just log out of facebook and stop checking it for years at a time so you don’t have to deal with people like me. Also have you talked to my son Kevin? I lost him to the terrible woke plague and he won’t talk to me unless I take off my maga hat and I’m afraid to since I think I can hear the sound of the good old days of America playing from within side the hat, it must be a sign from up above (you should hear the tiny angles sing my name) and even my love for my son can’t get in the way of those types of messages!
