Sad but true

If I was standing next to a disposed dictator from possibly the most brutal modern empire who was not overthrown but instead given control over a massive amount of real estate and just let free to do whatever they want as a filthy rich person… I would protect my balls too you don’t know what someone unhinged like that is going to do and you KNOW there isn’t going to be consequences for them so more than anyone else in the world they have zero fear about going for a nut kick.
Besides the whole English royalty thing is such a lame game of Simon says where rich insular people copy the aesthetics of other rich insular people to accrue more power, it is just like high school, so there could easily be a “Royal Nutcracker” that royalty does when men are around them with their balls uncovered and nobody would bat an eye, not the British public, not the news media, not British politicians… they would all just sigh and say “That’s our queen!” and laugh at you as you reeled in pain.
Why did I have to learn this in meatspace, and not on the internet from random kids? Things ain’t right, I tell you, when my extended family knows and/or cares more about an environmental topic than left-leaning Lemmy.
Because everything is on fire and while using less soap and laundry detergent bottles is certainly a good goal to aim for, it is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic and worse it is rearranging deck chairs according to the directions of a captain who is trying to distract everyone from dealing with the fact that the ship is sinking.
Recycling by and large doesn’t work but corporations really don’t care because recycling is a great way to sell consumers the experience of being environmental when consuming and it provides way to shift blame and get people focused on recycling rather than the actions of big corporations.
As recycling implodes as a cultural ritual of “doing your part” to save the environment there has been a rise in advertisements from companies selling smaller detergent and soap bottles and I think they are trying to fulfill the same emotional need and story .
Which isn’t to say these soap bottles aren’t a good thing, but if the left leaning people you interact with aren’t focused on this… I don’t think that is indicative of anything but the high number of existential environmental problems we face and the general refusal of neoliberal and rightwing governments to tackle them.
Lol it’s crazy that people think Sauron actually did Helm’s Deep
Once YouTube decides you might be a good candidate for rightwing radicalization or conspiracy theories, good luck getting the algorithm to show you anything else lol. I am honestly surprised you even got the algorithm off that in 5 months. YouTube has permanently decided I am a good target to manipulate into conspiracies and rightwing content based on the fact that it has figured out I am a white man and I watch YouTube. Does it matter the only youtube political content I watch is leftist YouTube channels like the Majority Report? It does not.
I’ve also seen his temper in his videos plus adding what he said in this video, I am convinced the guy should not be allowed to own a damm BBGun. But he’s lucky he doesnt live in a “communist state”. Yo what a shitshow.
You can see with these conservative white men when they clearly perceive a threatening universe everywhere they look based on their ideology. It is what directly leads to their irrational bouts of anger and violence, and causes things like....
"A 14-year-old African-American boy stopped to ask for directions to school in a Detroit suburb but was shot at instead, according to prosecutors.....I got to the house and I knocked on the lady's door. Then she started yelling at me and she was like, 'Why are you trying to break into my house?' " Walker told local station WJBK. "And I was trying to explain to her that I was trying to get directions to Rochester High. And she kept yelling at me. The guy came downstairs, and then he grabbed the gun, and I saw it and started to run. And that's when I heard the gunshot," he told the station.
the same old story over and over again
Rightwing white men afraid of the world and thus ready to project anger and violence at the slightest confirmation of whatever dumb bullshit they believe in isn't a cute look for any community, which is probably why these people tend to feel so isolated in the first place...
I watched this guy for a little bit and liked his Linux stuff and then in one video he started ranting about how those FOSS licenses that include a requirement to use software ethically are the worst thing in the universe because they bring politics into software and I thought “wait, this guy is ignorant asshole isn’t he?” and turns out yes, yes he is.
Not making the point to defend those licenses or not but all this guy cared about was FOSS not being political and it’s like…are you a child? Do you not understand how all of this is political?
People like this guy give FOSS a really ugly outward facing identity and it turns away soooo many potential contributors and chill people.
To your point about this guy being exactly the kind of person that shouldn’t be allowed to own a precision semiautomatic rifle with 30 round magazines of high caliber rifle rounds, I agree, I have seen that guy get so fucking angry about shit on his channel, he has no ability to control his anger and that kind of person shouldn’t be allowed to own an object that gives their temper tantrums the capacity to kill so many people so quickly before their rational control kicks back in.
I mean as long as UBI isn't spearheaded by a bunch of libertarians who think they are bravely forging an unprecedented path forward towards creating a social safety net while ignoring the long history of social safety nets in different societies, and the entire left movement in the US that fought successfully for things like the 8 hour work day.
I think UBI can be great, but there are wayyyy too many libertarians into UBI to the point that the ruling class has a super clear route to catastrophically cutting social welfare programs across the board while saying "we don't need these if we have UBI!", making UBI completely insufficient, and fooling libertarians into taking the bait hook line and sinker because they don't have political or historical knowledge about how social welfare in societies is actually achieved through organization of worker power to leverage against a hostile ruling class.
~30% of the US population are white men but according to that link 52% of mass shootings are perpetrated by white men. That is a ~22% increase over what you would expect if the US didn’t raise its white conservative men to be violent and hateful and specifically teach them they are the only types of people who are allowed to be violent or threaten the possibility of violence in public spaces.
How is this not evidence that white men are the most dangerous people in the US? Not in terms of being likely to commit a crime of desperation but rather to be an utter loser and decide to shoot a bunch of random people out of pure hate? White men might not be the most likely to hurt you in the US, but they are BY FAR the most likely to hurt you for no reason other than you who happen to be and what you happen to represent to them.
A man that feels he has nothing to lose is a dangerous thing.
Billionaires with nothing to gain but money for moneys sake are far more dangerous, it’s just they are going to kill your loves ones with crushing debt or an opioid prescription not a bullet.
Between 1999 and 2015, around 350,000 people died from opioid addiction related deaths in the US.
350,000
Guess whether any of the Sacklers went to jail who knowingly pushed opioid prescriptions in situations where it was dangerous or unnecessary based rational from studies conducted to purposefully sell more opioids?
Ah sir, you ommm, made it so that every page of paper we use while working is deducted from our time off by HR (1 piece of paper = 10 minutes vacation time).
Whose paper should we use?
100% Real DRM In Every Drop!
Congratulations you are now subscribed to Business Facts.
As you’re friendly (and helpful!) algorithm how about I recommend you some similar content you might be interested in subscribing to such as unhinged rightwing political commentators outright calling for violence, batshit crazy conspiracy videos and vape pen reviews?
Oh yeah, Ken? He is a good guy it’s just sometimes when you are hanging out with him and he starts to get a little drunk at the bar he can’t help but start yelling loud jokes with racial slurs in em and it gets real awkward.
He goes to church every Sunday though and his wife is the local girls soccer coach, he is a good guy at heart.
See this is exactly what I am talking about when I say HP is leaving money on the table here, when thinking about these topics you just utilized the intellectual property of the following products for self improvement, recreation and social benefit:
Thus you are clearly already a customer of HP, and the exchange of HP giving your mind the imaginative capacity (Thought-As-A-Service) to visualize a printed document it is only reasonable to bundle with a subscription you pay to HP.
Are you going to tell me the US Supreme Court isn't dumb enough to make this federal law? Also, if you think my joke was wayyy too much of a logical stretch to make any sense you should see what these people think about women and their bodies.
My ram just dumps its contents to whatever it feels like whenever it fancies like a rogue waste disposal truck that goes around neighborhoods collecting trash and then just delivering it to other random homes.
I don’t blame people either, I was raised in the same frame of reference that we have to consume our way out of this crisis and that the environmental crisis is fundamentally a story of our collective moral failings to be personally responsible.
People want to fix things, and I will be the last person to say that helping out a little bit doesn’t go a long way. It’s just, we need to evolve our understanding past framing the climate crisis as a story of our average people not having any personal responsibility to a frame of reference where we understand the class politics, the power of corporations to undermine environmentalism and the general collective solidarity between workers globally that will actually have the power to halt the climate crisis.
