  • it seems like you're unsure you want kids in any case

Unless you're certain you want kids, don't have them. I love my little one, but it's not easy.

Kids deserve to have parents who can give them 100% and you do not want to live the rest of your life resenting them.

  • When you're selling a million cars, it's guaranteed that some of them will have a missed defect, no matter how good your QC is.

That's why you have agencies like the NHTSA. You need someone who can decide at what point the issue is a major defect that constitutes a recall.

  • It's always a weird flavor, too. Like "I'm communist but only if I get all the wealth. Also I hate minorities but love the LGBT."

For some reason it just makes me think of Dennis on 30 Rock. "Fiscally liberal, socially conservative."

  • Yep. Every manual I've seen had discrete sections for "What to do in an emergency", "Basic ownership shit", "Maintenance", and a bunch of other stuff.

You don't need to read the entire thing, just the important information so you know what to do.

Or at the very least, know where it's at so you can reference it when you need to.

  • The term lingua franca derives from Mediterranean Lingua Franca (also known as Sabir), the pidgin language that people around the Levant and the eastern Mediterranean Sea used as the main language of commerce and diplomacy from late medieval times to the 18th century, most notably during the Renaissance era. During that period, a simplified version of mainly Italian in the eastern and Spanish in the western Mediterranean that incorporated many loan words from Greek, the Slavic languages, Arabic, and Turkish came to be widely used as the "lingua franca" of the region, although some scholars claim that the Mediterranean Lingua Franca was just poorly used Italian.

  • You've never operated a public-facing website, have you?

In the past 24 hours alone, I've had at least 344 bot attempts on my personal site. A handful are harmless crawlers but most are hoping to hit a vulnerability.

Captchas are necessary to prevent malicious bot activity. It's unfortunate that it also means it'll be a pain for users.

  • Diamond Sports is suing Sinclair for doing the same, minus the "good product" part.

Sinclair bought up the Fox RSNs a few years back, renaming the company as Diamond Sports and the channels as Bally Sports. Not too long afterwards, they went bankrupt. Diamond is claiming that Sinclair has saddled them with massive debts and extraordinarily high management fees. Sinclair also kept the funds from the sponsorship agreement with Bally.

The lawsuit accuses Sinclair of receiving about $1.5 billion as a result of alleged misconduct, including fraudulent transfers of assets, unlawful distributions and payments, breaches of contracts, unjust enrichment and breaches of fiduciary duties.

“Diamond Sports Group is seeking to vindicate its rights and protect the value of the Diamond bankruptcy estate, including by recovering value from Sinclair Broadcast Group that was improperly transferred from Diamond prior to its filing for bankruptcy in March 2023,” a spokesperson for Diamond said in a statement.
