  • WEI doesn't do that at all. It only can validate that the browser is what it claims to be.

That's not to say WEI isn't bad. It will make it near impossible for new browsers to gain market share and create privacy issues.

  • That's what made dogs perfect as pets.

Our ancestors noticed these animals that would follow us around in packs. They could generally keep up with us, form bonds easily, were pretty good at killing, and mostly ate the parts of the animals we didn't.

We just chose the ones who were coolest with us and just bred the ones who loved us the most.

  • Fwiw, the title is intentionally skewed and wrong. I'm not saying writers shouldn't be upset because they should, but it is making the situation look much worse than it is.

The six original writers were paid $3K each in streaming residuals last quarter for Season 1.

Suits was added to Netflix on June 17th where it streamed for three billion minutes in a single week, June 26 to July 2. Using Nielsen numbers, it streamed for about five billion minutes on Netflix during Q2. Previously it was on Peacock and we don't have the streaming data for that, but we can assume that it wasn't anywhere as much. Using the most recent data through July 16, it was seen for a total of 12.8 billion minutes.

Streaming services also doesn't pay residuals based on minutes watched, but based on a complicated formula.

Suits episodes are 42 minutes long, meaning the base annual residual is $10,034. Netflix US has more than 150M subscribers, so the subscriber factor is 150%. Their initial streaming residual payment would be $15K per episode.

However, that is just the initial payment Netflix needs to make. Subsequent payments for the actual streaming rights per year are adjusted down. This is the first year on Netflix so the residual factor is 45%. This makes the base annual payment $7,448.

Now, the show was on Netflix for 14 days during the last quarter, making their Q2 residual $286. WGA also imposes a 1.5% union due plus $25 per quarter. This brings the payment per episode down to $256.

  • They still exist but they aren't bred at scale anymore.

A lot of the suitable land for the banana is contaminated with the fungus that causes Panama Disease so they can only be planted on land without it.

A decade ago, a new strain of the fungus that infects Cavendish was detected. There isn't any real replacement or treatment for it yet, meaning there is a high chance that all edible bananas will go extinct.

  • The basket used for CPI is adjusted annually to replicate the average expenses for a person.

The real issue is just how to measure items such as housing and education expenses.

Someone who bought a house 40 years ago probably isn't paying anything. Twenty years ago and they're only paying a few hundred. Five years ago and they're paying a couple thousand. Renting today and they're paying a bit more. Similar issue with education.

If you live in SoCal or another VHCOL area, you're probably experiencing a different level of COL change than someone in the middle of Iowa.

And how do you handle the changes in the basket? Did consumer taste change or are people changing their buying habits to match their budget?

CPI is just a way to take thousands of variables and boil them down into one number.

  • This standard doesn't affect ad blockers.

    ###Goals

    • Allow web servers to evaluate the authenticity of the device and honest representation of the software stack and the traffic from the device.
    • Offer an adversarially robust and long-term sustainable anti-abuse solution.
    • Don't enable new cross-site user tracking capabilities through attestation.
    • Continue to allow web browsers to browse the Web without attestation.

    ###Non-goals

    • Enable reliable client-side validation of verdicts: Signatures must be validated server-side, as client javascript may be modified to alter the validation result.
    • Enforce or interfere with browser functionality, including plugins and extensions.
    • Access to this functionality from non-Secure Contexts.

The workflow does not involve checking or blocking extensions. It operates closer to SSL certs. The webpage asks the browser to prove its identity. The browser generates a token. A trusted third party (attester) signs the token. It sends that back to the webpage. The webpage decides if the token is legitimate and if they trust the third party.

The ability to use extensions which alter the contents of the webpage is still allowed if the browser allows it. This standard just verifies the identity of the browser.

It still will cause issues for the Internet, though. Small browsers would likely be unable to afford paying for the attesters. Fingerprinting would be much easier and WEI doesn't have a method to prevent high entropy. Attesters would be able to track each user and the sites they are visiting.

  • Even if you ignore the rich and powerful, it still makes sense.

If you were the security officer at a facility that was holding a man who trafficked and molested dozens if not hundreds of children, you would probably strongly consider "accidentally" leaving his gate unlocked or taking away any suicide prevention measures.

  • I had only one visit with my last doctor before finding a new PCP.

After that visit, I got a call from him saying that I needed to buy $270 in supplements each month from him, the vast majority of which listed their active ingredient as a "Proprietary Blend".

  • Every single plan since Simple Choice includes unlimited hotspot.

It does have a different bucket for the 5G speed soft cap, though, but they all include unlimited 3G speed (7mbps) plus the 5G speed data.

I'm guessing you're on the Essentials plan. That doesn't include any 5G hotspot data but it still has unlimited 7mbps hotspot. It's also the only plan that allows you to buy 5G hotspot speed.
