  • Subnautica 2 must be in a pretty dire spot for this to happen. I guess we'll see as the story unrolls and early access comes eventually but I've met many successful people who stopped caring after they made it big (which is fine but then just quit) so I really wouldn't be surprised if the publisher is right here.

  • It's the toughest problem for this very reason but thats why freedom of competition is critical here. We can allow systems to self correct through incentives and protections and thats exactly what most western democracies are doing!

Diversity has been hijacked as a ideological word but its literally the best and most sustainable long term strategy even in rigid markets like investment (I.e. hedging, index funds etc). So diversifying power, despite blocking, is really powerful despite what current autocrat wannabes want us to believe.

  • Theres definitely some risk especially in semi-anonymous forums like Lemmy. For example Lemmy.world is blocking VPNs so they know everyone's IP addresses and given post history etc its very easy to actually identify who's who. Especially now with AI forensics.

That being said, as a security expert, I think it's not always productive for casual people to be obsessed with this and you if you can you should use a VPN or a mobile network which due to how cell towers work is much more anonymous than anything else in practice (datacenter IPs work too as well as TOR but those are blocked in practice)

  • How is single use defined here? Because some places do "single use is anything below 5nm thickness" and you uusy end up with more plastic.

Edit: seems anything above 30 microns is still legal which basically means only cling wrap and similar. Shopping bags on avg are 50 microns or so.

  • Maybe that's the only way US will ever get a third party. I'm not an American but I do think american politics system would be significantly stronger even with a minority 3rd party. Can you imagine how powerful US would be with a diverse parlament that has true competition of ideas not just partisan voting? That's true "checks and balances".
