  • We took a huge hit in our cost of living when we fell off the benefit cliff. I know it's lost credits rather than more taxes but it doesn't really matter when you make more and struggle at least as much as before.

  • From Google:

While a precise percentage is difficult to pinpoint, it's estimated that a significant portion of vegetarians, particularly in the West, do eat eggs, often identifying as lacto-ovo vegetarians.

This is a common type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, poultry, and seafood, but includes dairy products and eggs.

In some cultures and religions, like Hinduism, vegetarianism often excludes eggs, while in the West, it's more common to see vegetarians who include eggs in their diet.

  • I lived a year in Nijmegen when I was younger, and later another year in Duesseldorf, so what you're describing isn't foreign to me. But where I live now there are no options other than car. If you don't own one you need a friend with one or an Uber.

  • As an American, I don't have access to trains, buses, bike lanes, sidewalks or even a shoulder on the road. The last time I tried to walk home from the tire shop two miles away, three people stopped to offer me a ride because it is that dangerous. I live inside the 275 loop that runs around Cincinnati.

  • Yes, and probably a slim majority of those armed people voted for Trump. This power equalizer is one of the reasons our protests don't get more violent. In a lot of places here, if someone reasonably fears for their life because of your actions they can can just shoot you. It's why leftists rarely take protests to conservative areas. And the fascists just laugh while Democrat voters burn down businesses in their own neighborhoods. We need to target the oligarchs' businesses and income streams, but too many people like "their" billionaires who donate pennies of their dollars to popular causes to appease those who might otherwise bring out the guillotines.

  • We have cut back on our egg usage but I have a vegetarian daughter who doesn't like beans, and eggs are a significant part of her diet. Obviously she doesn't eat fish. I have a severe lactose intolerance so there aren't many cheeses I eat, and even when I do eat something like Gouda or feta it is very small amounts. Also I've never seen local brie or Camembert, my wife would love if there was.

  • Not to mention "most people" wouldn't fit in here or feel welcome. Remember Donald Trump won the popular vote and even those who didn't vote didn't feel strongly enough about either side to pick one or the other. It's not just the US, far right candidates keep gaining popularity in parts of Europe. And I think a lot of people aren't interested in Star Trek or trans rights. The niche communities have very low levels of activity too. The fediverse just isn't for everyone.

  • If you can live on 85% then it's an awesome opportunity, and super rare in the US. I'd be trying to find something to bridge the financial gap, some under the table gig or something because I already don't make enough.

  • I honestly have no idea why anyone who cares even 1% about their privacy would have ever bought one of these abominations in the first place. If I ever receive one as a gift I will burn it with fire.

  • I hiked 7 miles/11km of steep hills in a little under two hours this morning and I've been fired up all day. I get it. I used to do long runs but I'm getting old enough I do better with fast paced hikes.

  • I like to pick out my own produce, shop markdown items and sales, and I like getting out of the house. My regular store has a bar too. I never drink there, but there is usually some eye candy around. And for those who want to shop from their PC or phone, Kroger delivery is quicker where I'm at.
