  • How about a similar rule that puts the provider on the hook for getting authorization for what they do?

Like I know the system is fucked, but I don't want my doctor having me go somewhere to find out I get a $500 bill. Make them get authorization and if it fails tell me the cost before the appointment gets made.

If I have to spit in a tube again to get a $500 bill, I'll call and threaten Natera again till they drop the bill. Bastards.

  • Anyone remember Intel Optane? Nah, just me.

  • I hadn't thought about this, but you may be on to something. I had a car issue, googled it, found nothing but crap and generic articles. I searched the same on YouTube and found a couple videos about fixing the exact issue on my type of car.

    Really interesting observation.

  • You have the right to buy something else.

  • I disagree. I'd rather have 500 choices and let the consumer choose than a triopoly on my poor USB cables.

Edit: Maybe the ranking system needs more work. Personally I like seeing all and making choices. Though some may just want above board picks.

Reminds me of code. Too bad ya can't just regex search combined with star ratings and some secret sauce to get rid of what the viewer thinks of as crap.

  • I've had AT&T with an unlocked bootloader. My Pixel is unlocked and can be bootloader unlocked. I'm sure you could find a phone that can have an unlocked bootloader.

Also, they have no reason to provide you with schematics or anything like that. Doing such a thing could give away a competitive advantage or give hints to competitors. If you really wanted, you could whip out the oscilloscope and trace leads, etc. You could also start with AOSP.

Once gain, you're free to do whatever. They're free to not give you info. Funny enough I guess in your case, they're free to restrict your bootloader. Freedom works in all directions: for better or worse.

  • I'll bite. I disagree with this.

I buy things, I get them in a reasonable time at a reasonable price. If something is wrong, I can return. Their customer service is one of the best. I feel more comfortable buying things there with Prime since I know they'll take care of me.

I wish Prime was cheaper ... I wish everything was. Every company jacks up prices.

It's not even close to AliExpress. The quality of Amazon is far superior. I buy stuff from AliExpress and I have to wait 2 weeks, have worse customer support, etc. I bought something once and didn't get any info until it arrived at my door 4 weeks later. I asked what's up at week 3 and was told to wait till 4 before they can look into it.

Amazon is a marketplace, anyone can create a store and put up items. It's not really Amazon's fault that people have BS listings. It's not reasonable to human-vet every listing. Maybe they could have a better reporting system; idk.

Could they do better on ratings and other things? Sure. Heck they added the ai summary for reviews. I like that. Are they still the best general marketplace for consumers: in my opinion: yes.

I ordered a random endoscopic camera for a car issue. Less than 20 bucks. It'll be here in a couple days. It's from a random brand. If it works: great. If not: money back. I like the choice of random brands and maybe some I've heard of. Choice is good.

  • There is nothing stopping you. Unlock the bootloader and you can do anything you want.

Write your own bootloader, os, etc. feel free.

  • So you want more executive power? .. almost like that the president can do things without Congress?

    .. boom dictatorship.

There's a line, idk what it should be but it should be.

  • I guess you could do this on Android via a bootloader unlock, lots of work, and a cup of coffee.

I mean Android is a Linux kernel already so I guess you mean some other distro.

  • Come on guys it's a 8 bit unit and some #define. Easy to change.

Side story, I wrote code for RAM-stick detection for a Windows app. I was too lazy to check the number of sticks then allocate memory. It's hardcoded to 255. I wonder if it'll ever matter.

  • Lots of people are on TikTok and Instagram.

I on the other hand stare at the nearest wall.

  • I'd argue it's a mountain thing. I think they helped it get to a great place.. then decided to make more billions by making it worse.

You go up, you go down.

  • Apple probably does the same thing. You pay 20 bucks for an app that gets taken down from the store: does the next phone get it still?

  • That's the funny thing. Common sense says things go back to a sense of normal. Executives lack common sense or foresight.
