  • +1 there is something nice about just downloading and double clicking an exe.

Maybe they should have a common file format for all distro that extracts, etc. for the current distro. I thought that was flatpak, but idk.

  • I'd honestly like distance and stability crossed. Shorter distance than wifi6 isn't very useful at least at my house where one wall seems to block most of the signal.

By time I'm at my garage it's all 2.4g.

  • I want a IR blaster again and a front notification light.

Or at least let me easily simulate the notification light without a third part app.

  • One other thing: in CA most stores not near a recycling center are required to take them back and refund you in store.

See https://www2.calrecycle.ca.gov/BevContainer/InStoreRedemption for the list of stores for your zip.

I've done this at Walmart, Safeway, Walgreens, Sams, etc. lots of stores are on that list, and most people don't know. Worst case, ask for a manager, they should know. Also the stores have a sign at the entrance window telling you that they take stuff for CRV. You don't need to have bought it there.

It's much better than finding a place, sorting, weighing, etc

  • My father in law watches this crap all the time. Also every war propaganda video.

.. if not that, Thai boxing or bear hunting. Ya never know what he'll be watching as long as it's one of those. Oh unless it's Friday night, then he's watching SmackDown.

  • You can't. That's not enough money.

Make the lives of your community better instead.

  • How many drops of that fill my monthly data bucket?

  • Sometimes I look at a food menu and get overwhelmed. Would be cool if I could just ask an AI what I would like from this place and it gave me like 3 choices it thought I'd like.

If I don't like those 3 give me another 3 to choose from.

Besides the overwhelm issue, my dad had really bad eyesight. This would have been great for him to quickly somehow get a giant-print (if we put this in a tablet) version of the top 3 things he'd like from the menu. I had hoped Google Glass would have been able to do something like this for him, maybe by just reading it into his ear. I always felt bad that we'd have to try to figure out what he'd like. I mean we could read the menu to him, but he didn't want to be a bother and would kind of just go with the flow (and pick one of the earlier things we'd list off). It's tough to say if he would have liked one of the 50 other items. Miss ya dad.

I want AI to help make people's lives better.

  • Something I've wondered about this:

Is there any way to enforce this? Like say 80 more votes were pledged. An election happens and a bunch of states vote hard in the other direction from the (should be) winner. How do those states get forced to follow through and give the electoral votes?

.. like I don't believe politician's words here. What binds the state to give its votes here? What happens if they just decide not to?

  • Sync. Voyager was good too.

  • This guy comes off like a jerk. Terrible sounding person.

  • The funny thing is then the rich companies spends millions on lawyers to say that poached employee's stuff was common knowledge and thereby not an NDA issue or trade secret.

You turn around and say I'm leaving but will say the same stuff that person said to the next employer and they'll sue with the same lawyers.

"It's ok if I do it but not if they do it"

  • Interesting. I mean they could do this, but would need votes to make it to people's feeds. Would they spam fake votes to game it? I doubt it; at least as a first run.

Otherwise I guess unless people sort by newest, they wouldn't interfere.

A middle ground for them would be sponsored posted via certain accounts that people could block if they didn't want to see them. But like I mean a specific set of accounts and not ones they can just add and remove to make new sponsored posts appear. Maybe a sponsored account type that could be blocked at a user level.

Though all of this is what ifs: I'd say defederate if they don't play ball responsibly. They aren't even targeting Lemmy stuff atm. More like Mastodon.

Honestly federating with threads makes me more likely to use Mastodon. Otherwise very few people I know or care about are on it (Mastodon).

  • I was, and still am, not a big user on FB but still. I welcome the general population to federate with the current group.

I thought this was a fediverse where different groups would be federated together? The logic of not federating with meta shows how shallow that vision actually is.

If the current fediverse is so great, it should easily survive Meta. The fear makes me think folks don't think it could.

We're all entitled to our opinions. Please don't downplay mine by calling them simplistic.

  • Elroy Goes Bugzerk and Elroy Hits the Pavement.

Man I want another Elroy game!

  • I would hit approve, and optionally ask for changes.

  • I'd say the best way is to get rid of the electoral college. Let the popular vote decide things.

It kills a lot of gerrymandering too.

  • I saw a commercial for healthcare.gov. It talked about how people only paid a few bucks for healthcare. It was all after government assistance.

The fact that you need heavy government assistance to get healthcare shows how much of a failure things are here.

Also in Mexico they have legal price limits on drugs. They're printed on the box so you know if you're getting a deal or paying the max. Also can see a doctor for like 40 pesos (about 2 to 3 USD). It's much cheaper than my post insurance copay. I understand it's a different market, but they have better general healthcare than the US.

Also as a side note, most drugs don't need a prescription. You can tell the pharmacist what hurts and they can tell you what should help (or when to see a Dr). If I want to see my Dr, I'm on hold for 20 minutes then get an appointment in 2 weeks. Once again: viva Mexico!
