I wasn't a fan of discovery at first, but by the time Pike and Spock came in it was obvious they had gotten some people involved who cared about the universe. I feel like it has recontextualized TOS, and added a lot of depth to the characters we've known for the longest time. And they've done a fantastic job of making the shows intelligible to new people, while adding heaps of depth, backstory and context for the rest of us with the simplest things, like Picard holding his flute at the beginning of season 3.
People can completely ignore the new stuff if they like, but I like that they're taking some risks. The alternative is what we got with the last star wars trilogy. Perfect casting, fantastic acting, excellent world building, and a story that meandered, found the safest route, and ended up not leaving much of its own mark. Or anyway, that was my opinion.
No, but he's guilty of acting like a total ass in court, which would get literally anyone else thrown in jail. I don't want to see him get his consequences without due process, but it's disgusting that people like him get different treatment.
Site to site transport is effectively twice the number of transports. People are doing jobs. It might not be the best for them to immediately be beamed to where they need to go, because they might be doing something important. They're generally transporting a few stationary people one place. Their capacity could easily get overloaded trying to get a bunch of excited, moving people to their stations. If they're having to do it in shifts, and waiting for confirmation from each person that they're ready to go, I could imagine it simply being faster and more efficient to walk or use turbo lifts. Plus, that leaves transporters free for emergencies that may arise, or crew members who really can't get to their post quickly.
As far as medical issues go, I can see a whole lot of reasons it might not be safe to move an injured person, and you also don't want a doctor blindly transporting into an area that might have a danger that just injured someone.
Even just from a safety standpoint, you've just identified that some shit is going down. Why put people in a transporter buffer, where a power surge or failure would mean mass casualties. It's a good standard procedure even if it's only meant to not incentivize an immediate attack specifically designed to kill a massive amount of people transporting around the ship. Why distract the crew members doing important tasks with dozens of people materializing around them? With all the movement on the ship, i'd think it would take exponentially more capacity just to track the surroundings and make sure the area where someone is materializing is empty. I assume the transporter is sophisticated enough to handle all this, but it has to have an impact on capacity.
This is excellent advice, and I want to stress that linux on bare metal will let you see just how much better it is. It'll fly. You really don't get a sense of how much be there is in windows till you run linux on the same hardware.
You could use a hardware key for ssh with a passphrase protected key. I use a solo key v1 myself. There are even keys that let you enter a pin on the device instead of the computer, so you don't have to worry about key loggers. And you can set up Sudo to work with a key too.
Is it the petzl zipka? Because if it isn't I'd love to know what it is. I have one, but they've apparently stopped making them, and it's so much better not having an elastic strap.
Galaxy buds live are also great for people with tiny ear canals, because they just sit in your ear and don't go into the canal at all. They're super comfortable for a long time.
It's crazy how much of a difference this makes. Even putting on a pair of shoes with a tiny drop now makes me feel like i'm wearing cowboy boots or heels or something.
Another problem with phone number requirement. EU phone number? Get out of here. Otherwise you're right. With a vpn, what's to stop you from continuing to use it.
And I still have them. In a box. And any day now I'll get my double speed Sony USB floppy drive and image them. And clearly I'll still be able to open the files that are on them.
The kind of life he's led has not given him the types of socially safe situations in which to learn the things that you shouldn't say. I think it's fair to say that the same influences that might have moderated his public statements would also have moderated his public work and he would not have accomplished what he has.
When I listen to him talk I hear a type of clarity of thought and direction of speech i've never heard from someone who isn't autistic, like I am myself. I think with him it's a case of you taking the good with the bad, and recognizing that when he says something it's not necessarily coming from the same place as it would be from someone else with a similarly wide public exposure.
I've not heard that he's done anything horrible to anyone, and if memory serves his worst statements still recognized the importance of consent, while totally missing the definitional limits of being able to provide it. What i'm getting at is that he doesn't seem to be a horrible person. He seems to be a tone deaf person with very little context for understanding how other people's brains work, and perhaps no idea how different his really is.
