  • This is like the 90th time trump has tried to use absolute presidential immunity... and like the 10th time it's made it's way to the SC.

You'd think the SC would also just have a "Are you fucking kidding us? this is the 10th time you've tried this and the answer is still no, you aren't a godking".

  • I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell they'll rule in favor of DJ. That said, they MIGHT end up taking up the case which will delay things till June. The ONLY reason they'll take up this case is as a favor to DJT.

That said, the appeals court basically gave trump 1 day to appeal somewhere and the SC is giving smith 1 week to answer. There's still a pretty good chance that after smith's response they'll deny cert. That being said, it's beyond ridiculous that they are humoring this clown and his lawyers. The ONLY reason for that is the court is captured by rightwing extremists.

All that said, trump is basically betting everything on winning this election and pardoning himself for everything. He's uber fucked if it doesn't go that way.

  • Eh, don't really disagree with what you are saying. The problem is money and industry influence in politics and it's something that needs to be eliminated. I don't quiet take your point that regulations don't matter. Assuming money and industry influence are removed from politics we'd see laws and regulations more line with the public interest over corporate interest.

Even if we fully ditched capitalism, you'd still need/want regulations setting the bounds on how government can/should operate.

  • Because you think "Oh, I made a mistake, I'll be sure to fix it later". You never fix it later. You mostly just add layers of shit on top of it and pray nobody asks you in the future "Hey, WTF were you doing there?"

  • Not really, PFAS have been almost completely unregulated. It is just in the last 2 years that we are starting to see PFAS regulations globally. Up until that point, we allowed companies to literally just dump them down the rain or in a lake.

If regulations were so worthless, you should be asking yourself why every single industry fights new ones. Why the supreme court in the US has taken a position to kill Chevron Deference which weakens federal agencies ability to regulate.

The failure isn't regulations, the failure is a government system that severely neuters the ability of a government to regulate. The failure is a bunch of science denying corporate captured politicians that don't care how they destroy the planet.

  • Yup.

The same trick is played with recycling. Blame the end consumer for a supply chain completely out of their control.

The biggest polluters are corporations and we stop their pollution by regulation. These mega corps would have you believe that it's really your fault PFAS are everywhere because you shouldn't have bought those Teflon coated products. Nevermind the fact that Teflon is everywhere a nonstick surface is needed.

  • The next two civil rights I'm guessing we lose are gay marriage (Obergefell) and contraceptive access (Griswold). Obergefell because it was already close and hating anyone that's not cis is in vogue now on the right. Griswold because it was determined on exactly the same lines as Loving and Roe (In fact, Griswold is what underlay roe) and there's enough religious nuts out there that feel like contraceptives are sinful.

  • Originalism is nothing more than a mechanism for the Supreme Court to undo past precedent they don't like. Welcome to the new lochner era.

Hopefully we end this one like we ended the last, with a wave of socialism and a tough president willing to pack the court.

  • Yup. He's not perfect and has a ton of major issues that articles like "just say he's super awesome ok!" Are trying to paper over.

Most notably for me is the dogged support for Israel and continuing the trump era border policies.

He's been progressive on a lot of stuff, but he's also not the perfect leader. And frankly, this realization should be common. It's disturbing when any media wants to deify political leaders. Feels like "come on Democrats, why can't you be fascist like the right is?"

  • Geez, so the Hamas cease fire terms were essentially. "Please leave the gaza strip and we'll give you back the hostages that have survived your onslaught".

The response "Lol, fuck you for being so unreasonable!"

Really puts to lie israel's claim that this was about hostages in any way.

  • Not quiet. This is a key witness that testified in trump's defense, and even went to jail for trump. Now, however, he's struck a new deal in a different case to testify against trump... which isn't great for the ongoing case where he already testified for trump.

In other words, this is terrible news for both Trump AND Weisselberg.

  • All solved problems with well known solutions.

Networking is solved by processing commands in lock step (quake actually pioneered this).

Pathfinding has well known solutions like A*. That's really integrated with fog of war. In fact, it's easier to do today because computers are faster

Unit formation can be added but does not need to be. If you are doing high cps like in games like StarCraft, it's even preferable to the gameplay that you don't solve that problem.

And let's not forget the for these big studios, the solutions to these problems already exist in previous titles. They aren't starting from square one.

These problems are so well known that Indy game devs routinely solve them solo (see, games like factorio). Heck, the fact that you know to cite them speaks to how well known they are.

What's blocking new rtses by AAA companies is nothing technical, it's financial. Creating the assets, levels, and story are almost certainly a bigger blocker than any technical problem.

  • Your data source is the number of encounters by the CBP which is not the same as the number of border crossings or individuals crossing the border.

If the same individual crosses the border twice in a year and is caught by the CBP they get counted as 2 encounters.

But yeah, I'm the idiot because I didn't consider the possibility that 2 million encounters does not mean 2 million different individuals.

You fuckers really need to figure out how stats and counting work before worrying about the swiss invasion.

If I'm someone waiting for title 42 access to the US and the boarder patrol kicks me out, guess where they are sending me? Right back to the encampment next to the boarder with other 42 refugees awaiting a determination on status. And guess what someone who is trying to break into the US will possibly do, multiple times, when they think they can get away with it?

Maybe ask yourself why the numbers shot up so aggressively after title 42 was implemented in 2020.

  • Yup, but also the people crossing the border are never painted as having any sort of value. They are always framed as if they are valueless drains on society. Never mind the fact that they are often working various service, care, construction, and agricultural work. Nevermind the fact that these people often have educations or prior work experience. Nevermind the fact that these are people every bit as capable of learning new skills/trades as any american citizen. No, instead it's "they are here to drain society!"

This is why it's racist. Even with historically low unemployment levels the fear monger is still "They are taking all the jobs!".
