  • Yeah.. Because there's no place for downward pressure on health expenses. Hospitals are incentivized to raise prices as much as possible, because they know insurance companies will negotiate downwards. Insurance companies pass all costs back down to the pool while working as hard as possible to deny everything. Drug companies know they have a captive market, nobody else is making that medicine you need for survival so "Cha-Ching!". Employers are looking for the cheapest health plans possible which means the shittiest plans for their employees. And any company that sells medical equipment is looking at selling it for as much money as possible (or in a "package" that gets hospitals to overcharge on individually wrapped tylenol). Hospital Admins spend more time and money to make sure patients are charged $20 for a $0.10 pill than they trying to keep enough doctors and nurses on staff.

Medicare for all, that's the only way to start righting the ship here. Nationalizing the entire healthcare system would be the next step. It's beyond stupid that we run healthcare for profit.

  • McConnell should be seen as a superhero for the republicans. He got more done for the party than pretty much any past republican senate leader. He fucking got them 2 supreme court justices by his fuckery. He played senate democrats like a fiddle and got SO MUCH compromise out of them while pretty much never returning the favor. For fucks sake, I think Biden STILL views McConnell as a friend.

Yet he went against god king trump so now they hate him. Republicans are dumb as shit.

  • LMAO. Good luck with that attitude. It's exactly the reason democrats and biden risk losing in 2024. Plugging your ears and running away when any sort of cognitive dissonance sets in.

Goodbye. I hope you eventually learn how primaries work.

  • Grow the fuck up. This is a primary, not the fucking general election. Voting against Biden in the primary to tell him "I don't like what you are doing" is a perfectly valid and important way to vote. Why the fuck do you think we have primaries for incumbent presidents in the first place?

Democrats aren't the fascists so stop fucking acting like it when someone strategically votes. Biden isn't god and a vote against him, IN THE FUCKING PRIMARY, is not a vote for Trump. You dipshit. It does not lead to a Trump presidency. If anything, it's the fucking opposite, because it gives Biden time to course correct before he loses votes due to apathy or anger. Justified anger, if you consider the fact that the people voting uncommitted believe he's supporting a fucking genocide.

It's not like if biden got 100% of the primary vote he'd have any better or worse odds at beating trump. Use your fucking brain.

Half the fucking reason biden is as progressive as he has been is because of how well bernie and warren did. That's what happens when you vote your heart in the fucking primary. Biden wouldn't have been nearly as good on things like antitrust without the votes against him, IN THE FUCKING PRIMARY.

  • The reason Biden got such a big uncommitted vote is the current ongoing genocide in Israel. The solution is him doing more than simply calling Netanyahu an asshole then turning around and saying "I'm a Zionist".

IDK, it could also be that Biden is continuing the trump era "lock kids in cages" border policies and has signalled he wants to be even more cruel at the border. So he could stop that as well.

The time has passed, but he could have also not ran this time around. However, his ego got in the way. He has had dismissal approval numbers and he still chose to run which has put us in this position.

The solution is for Biden to listen to the voters before November and to change tact on critical issues. Before he loses a chunk of voters that simply don't vote because the choice between two genocidal candidates violates their moral compass.

I say all this as someone that will vote Biden. He's out of touch and running a terrible campaign. For fucks sake, he should be saying "abortion" at every rally, but he won't because he's a devout Catholic that has a hard time hitting so hard on a clearly winning issue.

His campaign can be summed up as "I'm not trump" which is exactly what fucking got trump into power the last time.

  • Things have already changed. You'll notice that 2A shit has not been talked about by pretty much anyone for the last couple of years. The NRA was one of the main lobbyists for that garbage, but now they are both nearly bankrupt and pulling in almost no money (membership is way down).

These lawsuits have crippled the org. I'm naively optimistic we may see actual gun legislation now they we don't have that org bribing politicians.

  • I just don't agree. This is the sort of weak willed "problem solving" that makes everyone hate democrats. Regardless how far right and insane johnson is, you got moderate dems willing to compromise everything because they feel they might get credit for making things more functional (They won't).

The perfect example of this is the border bill where dems bent over backwards and gave republicans every thing they wanted. Yet, immediately, the rightwing narrative was "Well dems want this and they are weak on the border so this is just another example of how weak they are on the border".

Helping out Johnson will play out exactly the same way. The far right idiots won't care if dems are compromising. That's not something that drives them nuts. Quiet the opposite, they spin it as "Look at how weak the democrats are, they compromised which just shows how righteous our position is." They also simply lie (consider how many claimed credit for the infrastructure bill they voted against).

When you have bad actors like the republican party, you don't win by trying to play their game. Giving them power is what they want no matter how they get it. Fascists don't care about hypocrisy, they care about gaining power. Compromising with fascists gives them power.

Dems aren't winning anyone over by letting the republicans give them wedgies at every opportunity.

  • What a stupid move.

There's no way the republicans would give the same grace to Democrats were the situation reversed. The absolute best thing dems can do here is play hardball. Let the republican hardliners tear the party to shreds, watch the chaos, and campaign on it in the upcoming election "The republicans are completely dysfunctional, they want to eliminate abortions and their current speaker would like to eliminate birth control."

Protecting a christian nationalist speaker because his party is a mess is completely stupid.

  • to people like you that can’t see past the hollow optics.

Umm, ok, Like I agree with you that charities in general tend to be a bad way to solve public problems. But I'm also pointing out that charities rich people tend to contribute to are often even worse than ineffective for addressing public needs.

  • The sun is based on physics and observing nebula and super novas. We know how much the sun weighs based on it's gravitational pull. We know what it's currently burning given the frequency of the light it emits. We know what generation it is based on the elements in the planets. And we know the contents of other stars by the light they emit when they explode and collapse.

We know the layers of the earth because we can bounce sounds off the earth's core to see how deep it is. We know roughly what it's made of because we know how much the earth weighs and that the earth has a magnetosphere (you only get that with certain metals).

The methods used are generations of built up knowledge in physics and astrophysics.

You can, of course, just google these questions and get better answers than my summation

  • It's, frankly, more than most billionaires and 100 millionaires do.

Most billionaires are setting up fake charities as tax shelters so they can publicize "Elon musk gave money to the Elon musk charity for fueling billionaire private jets foundation".

You can pretty much pick a billionaire and find that billionaire's charity that does dog shit.

Except for Dolly Parton who apparently didn't get the memo that she's supposed to be scamming :D

  • With weekly break-ins, they could have watched the place and arrested whoever is breaking in for, you know, the crime of breaking and entering. They could have further gotten a protective order against the dude and then watched the place again after he left jail.

She didn't report the break-in once.
