  • The difference is that the carbon in the wood is in the short carbon cycle while the fossil fuels were sequestered. Carbon wise it doesn't matter if the tree burns or rots (ok rotting does keep some of it in life and soil, but burning leaves some as char).

  • The best deal leaders could ask for is a strong social contract. They don't have to look over their shoulders we don't have to look over ours.

Also the ability to safely leave power. Jimmy Carter got to spend his retirement building houses for charity, Saddam Huissen got to spend his in hiding, Ghaddafi got to spend it being tortured awaiting execution by a mob of his citizens, and Hitler's retirement was spent absolutely ruining a bunker toilet while going through withdrawal. I'd much rather rule with limits then step away safely.

  • In those cases you arent buying several jugs of gas at once. You're just going.

I feel like I've explained my gut reaction pretty well here. My picture was of some angry feller buying a buncha fuel to do violence. Sounds like you got a different read off the same sentence.

  • I believe in a form of karma I like to compare to a public pool. If you keep pissing in the damn pool eventually you're just swimming in piss and a lot of people eventually may get mad that they're swimming in your piss

  • That's fair, I was in high school during the Obama years so tail end of Iraq and while they had canned answers the cultural momentum at the time was more or less that recruiters knew not to bother with kids who responded like that.

    Your response was great though

  • Because it's not a situation likely to cause electrical outages and if you've hit the point you're stocking up on gas you've likely hit the point you're moving closer to the border or fleeing. Additionally when I think of fuel used in genocide I think of the harrowing images of burning mass graves.
