  • I've never hold up a first play because of a potential remaster, especially not if it was not announced.

I have hold up a few replays when rumours of a remake are floating around though (like I did with Skyward Sword). I stopped a halfway through replay of Xenoblade Chronicles when they announced Definitive Edition. With how long XC games get if you try to do everything... Yeah.

  • Still lacking a definitive version in English of the original, Tales of Phantasia, as far as I know. The playstation version with skits and stuff was Japanese only.

The only officially localized version was GBA... and its epic tale of the legendary war :

    "Kangaroo."

(8:18:48 if the timestamp didn't work)

  • On the previous generation (which seems to be a lifetime ago now) Microsoft got badly burned on trying something like this, because they did it (and announced it) spectacularly wrong.

They wanted to allow game sharing by tying it to a system where you wouldn't be able to play your own games if your console wasn't online, so it could always track who's supposed to play every game. Lots of people shat on their announcement, because, understandably, fuck needing an internet connection to play offline games.

Sony exploited that saying their console would not need to stay always online and mostly "won" that generation's console announcement, while Microsoft hastily backpedaled to the usual too, probably costing them quite a bit since release was so close.

So in the end I think both were very reluctant to try the kind of DRM that would allow sharing again.

  • Making people pay to skip boring "gameplay" loops, and then paying them a trifle to get them to play more. While getting hundreds of time that from serving ads.

The good content is hiding somewhere under all that, promise! Keep digging and you'll find it.

  • Completely unrelated, but...

What the hell are those controller buttons?

One looks melted, the other 3 have weird shading like they're partly hollow. Super Famicom and EU SNES (the ones with colours) are smooth and round.

  • Dude.

You could at least look at what you're replying to before jumping in and going full outrage mode. I didn't even say anything about what I thought of the validity of that experiment.

Keep putting yourself forward to defend the poor, misjudged car company belonging to a crazy asshole.

  • I like how it thinks it is likely from a videogame, but somehow, it's absolutely certain it has the character's name.

And then a bunch of facts about famous videogame character Lemmy Kilmister.

  • Only yesterday, I searched for a very simple figure, the number of public service agents in a specific administrative region. This is, obviously, public information. There is a government site where you can get it. However I didn't know the exact site, so I searched for it on Google.

Of course, AI summary shows up first, and gives me a confident answer, accurately mirroring my exact request. However the number seems way too low to me, so I go check the first actual search result, the aforementioned official site. Google's shitty assistant took a sentence about a subgroup of agents, and presented it as the total. The real number was clearly given before, and was about 4 times that.

This is just a tidbit of information any human with the source would have identified in a second. How the hell are we supposed to trust AI for complex stuff after that?

  • French, I've tried bépo because AZERTY (the French standard since forever) seriously sucks. AZERTY is missing lots of diacritics and corresponding capital letters (including very common ones), lots of opening and closing characters are inexplicably separated, ... And the same bullshit as QWERTY, no thought behind where alphabetical characters should be beyond 19th century's "the mechanical arms of my typewriter should not cross too much".

However I couldn't commit to bépo and gave up. AZERTY is too ingrained in my mind at this point.

  • Yeah, it stinks. Another thing that makes me wish we'd got that Dreams PC port that was apparently considered at one point.

Very cool platform, powerful yet (somewhat) easy to use, and no other incentive than creating and sharing cool stuff. It's mostly dead now , but PC would have given it the critical user mass it needed.

  • A good deal of people making games experiences on Roblox are minors. They're being promised revenues, but of course they're paid with bogus money that they're encouraged to spend back on the platform, since cashing back is subject to an absolutely ridiculous rate, and to a minimum amount. Only the very few at the top can pretend to get anything back as real money. But all of the games, even the ones that never makes a cent for their creators, are the content Roblox milks indefinitely.

Roblox development is a jungle, completely unregulated and managed outside of the platform by design, since they want to deny all responsibility for any of that shit. They kill the platform forums so dev teams are being formed outside, on discords and stuff. Teams with minors working with adults. Yes, there were cases of exploitation, and worse.
