  • Yeah I have to agree. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Banning anything based on on the thoughts and opinions in someone's head feels a little too much like thought police to me.

  • Where is this perfect place you live in?

A place doesn't have to be perfect to be a better choice for someone than another place. What an overprotective strawman. Other people are allowed to be happy they live someplace else.

If I could pick up my job and family and do a cut and paste into a country that's got socialized healthcare, affordable education, and less gun violence, with no fallout from doing so, I'd do it tomorrow.

  • I mean, if you buy broadcom you reap what you sow. And 2012 was 11 years ago. ;-)

  • Ah, a very common use case.

  • I don't think I have for more than a decade and I'm kinda amazed at how many upvotes this meme got.

  • It's a really simple problem to avoid, and IMO has been for years. It's been at least 10 years since I've bought something without intel wifi so maybe I'm out of touch, but I'm kind of astounded there are so many upvotes to the meme.

My rule for a very long time has been: Get something with intel wifi, or even atheros wifi, and you will almost certainly not have a problem. Get broadcom wifi and your problem will directly relate to how much effort your distro has put into trying to make broadcom not be shit. Stay the fuck way from realtek and mediatek.

That's it. I literally can't recall a time since about 2010 when I had a wifi problem with Linux on any device I owned.

I keep two of these in my bag for instant wifi on any device I might happen to be working on that doesn't have it. Most recently popped one into an old desktop I picked up for my youngest son, and have used it previously as a workaround for someone who had a laptop where the onboard wifi worked but would not come back from sleep. (That was broadcom, IIRC)

  • McClain was catatonic and not speaking at that time, but law enforcement officers can be heard on body-worn cameras telling the medics that he was exhibiting “crazy” strength and that he nearly did a push-up with all three officers holding him down at one time.

It's amazing what feats the human body can perform when trying to save its own life. A shame these folks were so determined to kill him. Don't listen to the audio from the bodycam on this one or read a transcript unless you want to weep for the cruel loss of a gentle soul.

  • Why are cops in the US making diagnoses?

Because Excited Delirium is a fabricated condition meant to protect police and axon (tazer manufacturer.)

All about Excited Delirium part 1 and part 2.

IMO this is a huge win, and we should hope this gets repeated state by state.

  • I like to whip this out everytime the "no one wants to work" line comes up. 😁

  • The one issued Tuesday is the final judgment. It requires DPS to provide the records sought within 20 days, unless the state police agency appeals the ruling.

So how many years of appeals will go by now, I wonder?

  • It would be legitimately refreshing to see a no-shit feelgood story about a truly good person who happened to be a Republican. In reality though, it's become very clear that every last one is a piece of shit, it's just a matter of degree.

  • I have heard uncool middle aged guy with the “not a bigot though” upgrade package is a great overall build.

How sad is it that there are so many middle aged white bigots that it's something I could list like "over six feet tall" and "has a stable job" if ever I'd find myself single again. (Not that I'd really be looking for love at this point I think.) Crazy world we are living in.

Regardless, I will walk a little straighter having read your kind words. 😁

  • I've never stopped wearing baggy jeans. It was my first "I'm too old to give a shit" moment.

It's become true in recent years that I'm also I'm too, uh, husky for skinny jeans to really work.

But honestly don't give a shit. I'm pretty sure my wardrobe screams middle aged guy with no fucks to give and I'm just fine with that.

  • This thread about Israel and Hamas is almost 12 hours old and Downpunxx hasn't shown up yet. That's odd.

  • EEE has been used against open source tools in the past (it's where the extend part comes in), and crushing competition with the full weight of the MS machine is kinda the point. I think you're being too quick to handwave it away, but I'd love to be wrong. In any case, not interested in changing your mind enough to argue with you about it. Have a nice day!

  • Nothing specific. When I first jumped from gnome I spent probably more than a year going "damn that was thoughtful" or "wow, that's super convenient" as I discovered different features. As I said, I was an earlyish adopter of Plasma 5, and it was enjoyable just to watch it take shape.

I like what the KDE team does, and I like seeing Plasma continue to get better, so I'm just looking forward to a fresh new release, and discovering all the little niceties.

And bringing back the compiz style cube is pretty nice too. 😁
