  • Never paid attention to the guy until this video in 2020. Now I know he's a corporate media talking head and all, but seems like when I do take the time to listen to him, I'm hard pressed to find where I disagree strongly. I was pretty shocked and impressed that he took it to the cops so directly in that one.

  • Ah so Republicans have concern about traitors in their ranks now? Cool cool cool....

  • Personally I don't think banning associating with any group is a good thing. There lies neo-McCarthyism.

Not remotely the issue here. This isn't about banning, this is about not having or having nazi simps influencing a political party.

Really? Because the article spells out the problem in the second paragraph.

In a 32-29 vote, the party’s executive committee decided against excluding from their organization those “known to espouse or tolerate antisemitism, pro-Nazi sympathies or Holocaust denial”. A proposal to ban such individuals was included in a resolution supporting Israel as it wars with Hamas in Gaza.

Am I an antisemite because I think Israel is off the hook currently? Some people think so. Does it make me a Nazi, or as you say a "nazi simp"? I find that idea laughable, but maybe those same people think so. Maybe you do too. Or maybe someone in power a year from now will think so. I have no desire to participate in the Texas Republican party, nor any Republican party, but 100% any such resolution is going to open the door to weaponize those definitions, and the topic at hand is a current-day example.

And here's another article to back up my perception of measures such as these:

Republicans’ Dangerous New Bill Would Try to Muzzle All Criticism of Israel

And by the way - the downvote button isn't intended as a disagree button. If you think I'm wrong, show me how I am.

  • So the editorial staff has no say in what is published in their newspaper? That's definitely a different view of what the word "editor" means than I've had in the past, you've got a point there.

Having said that, I got a much less snarky answer explaining some things already, so your sideswipe wasn't necessary. Thank you sir and I hope the rest of your day is as lovely as you are.

I know these things because even though I’ve never worked for a newspaper, I am old enough to have gotten an undergrad degree in journalism back in the 90s before the newspaper industry died.

Maybe it's not my abysmal media literacy but the fact that you know these things because you have a degree in journalism. Huh. Guess I'll find something where you have a less than perfect understanding of my area of expertise or where I've had some secondary education, and be sure to point out how abysmal your literacy in that area is.

  • Good points, thanks for the peek into the industry. Without the usual sarcasm I will say you sound like you know what you are talking about. 🙂

  • Depends how cynical you feel today.

    IMO it's either:

    • The DNC believes anyone too progressive will get stomped in the general election
    • Don't forget, Dems would be conservatives in most other countries. As much as I hate to say it, I'm not convinced most of them aren't just as beholden to corporate interests as R is.

    OR

Probably a little of both of those actually. Also, maybe a dash of - boomers are going to control our politics until a bunch more boomer voters and boomer politicians die of old age.

  • It's the free market when someone conservatives don't like gets pulled, and cancel culture when it's someone they do like. Simple as that. 🙂

  • Good point and probably not, but I'm too lazy to look right now.

Edited to add: Presumably same editorial team, so the seeming dissonance between the two articles isn't lessened much by having different authors.

  • Not only that, if the impeachment vote were somehow happening today I guarantee R would still vote to acquit.

  • "You know why you can't play chess with a pigeon? Because at some point it will just shit on the board and strut around like it won."

  • Same paper that just ran the "Women should stop shunning Trump supporters in their dating pool" article. I guess that's so they'll be less likely to abused under the pending dictatorship?

  • When I bought my laptop i was using windows and didn’t research Linux compatibility :(

I apologize for my general grumpiness this morning. Totally reasonable. :-)

And yup. A decade ago was when Linux turned a corner on the wifi driver front, 11 years ago was hell

    I lol'd. :-)

  • I concede I was overtly dramatic, and you, of course, have a point.

Fair enough, and I was still within the depths of fresh out of bed grumpiness in my reply. Apologies for that! 🙂
