  • Probably most notably the iOS photos app until like 2014.

Edit: just checked. iOS 11 in 2017 added gif support to photos

I’ll also add, safari supported animated gifs for a long time before that and you could still save them in safari like any other image. But photos would only show the first frame like you said. When 11 came out they played like normal.

  • Gamers who get mad having to wait for company logos to show while games boot: They have to disclose every piece of software they use to make every game! I want my games 100% hand crafted and bespoke. I want to sense the life people spent meticulously crafting mudsplat_texture_1 - mudsplat_texture_500. Also no crunch (and no bugs, obviously)

  • Conservatives vote out of fear. They lie awake at night terrified of their son having to play sports agains a trans boy. Advertising these moron fears is a lot easier than advertising a plan to make things better. But also Michael Bloomberg had no plan to make things better, at least for us lowly constituents.

  • I was working overnight support the night crowdstrike shit the bed. Our systems were fine but payments stopped processing. Nobody up the chain from me awake so we had to wait an hour for news stories to roll in before we knew what was happening.

  • The better question is how do you charge an ev with a credit card. The ones around here are ridiculous. Instead of a credit card swipe there are a million different apps you have to download. Oh, you parked your car in a parking garage with no reception? Too bad. Make an account, wait for the confirmation email, and then add your credit card into it.

There are conglomerate apps that bundle some of those brands together, but not all of them. Some of them might take paypal or something like it.

  • I left for the same reason. I browse on mobile and I genuinely tried for years to find in the official app where to just type in a subreddit. Like if I just heard about and wanted to go to r/whatever, there was no field to type in ‘whatever’. You could search, there was a dropdown of pre approved subs, or subs that passed a subscriber count, very rarely did it include what I was looking for. On Apollo it would take you to the sub you typed in. If advertisers or shareholders demand an unusable website then great I won’t use it.

  • I don’t think they let you turn it off on launch, or maybe I couldn’t find the setting. I had the laggiest julliannas ghosting around my map every run.

Single player was great, the invasions were awful.

  • So you dislike that the people selling LLMs are hyping up their product? They know they’re all dumb and hallucinate, their business model is enough people thinking it’s useful that someone pays them to host it. If the hype dies Sam Altman is back in a closet office at Microsoft, so he hypes it up.

I actually don’t use any LLMs, I haven’t found any smart ones. Text to image and image to image models are incredible though, and I understand how they work a lot more.

  • I’m not anti AI, but I wish the people who are would describe what they are upset about a bit more eloquently, and decipherable. The environmental impact I completely agree with. Making every google search run a half cooked beta LLM isn’t the best use of the worlds resources. But every time someone gets on their soapbox in the comments it’s like they don’t even know the first thing about the math behind it. Like just figure out what you’re mad about before you start an argument. It comes across as childish to me
