  • Where I am from several years ago the city renamed the Christmas Parade to Holiday Parade in a bid to be inclusive of other winter holidays. A small subset of citizens got butt hurt and have held a competing Christmas Parade several times.

Apparently the war on Christmas is acknowledging that there are other options.

  • There are but unless they are like shooting off big fireworks or teenagers having a party the police won’t care which means I would have to make it a civil thing and frankly we would just rather move as that’s already the plan anyway, or was until the pandemic…

  • I think you might be misremembering; the original iPhone had YouTube, maps (though it lacked a GPS for whatever reason), a camera, Safari, and even a primitive HTML based App Store that paved the way for modern PWAs. Games like Bejeweled were available months before iOS 2.0 came with the App Store.

The Moto ROKR was an iPod that made calls.

  • I mean it would be easy to choose somebody like Professor Moriarty. Assuming they didn’t gain instant knowledge of how to navigate the 21st century and/or you didn’t have to spend the 24 hours in their time/universe.

  • That’s cool. I wish I had a fun neighbor. My neighbor rebuilds unmuffled engines 6 feet from my living room window even though I have been asking him to move to literally any other part of his property for 10 years.

  • I’ve never understood why people think those signs are so you won’t hit them. They are for first responders to know to look for a kid in a wreck. But people don’t take them off when the kid isn’t in the car so they are mostly ignored.

  • I have a degree and 15 years experience in web development. The last 6 have seen me move up a bit to doing more full stack and team lead things. I specialize in front-end UI/UX and API middleware.

  • The only thing I can tell is that they were already saving the chats of personal accounts but their SLAs prevent them from doing so with some corporate accounts. Apparently there is some concern that proprietary information will now be made part of a public case. Personally I feel like that’s the price of being an early adopter of something most people said was a bad idea but what do I know?

  • I’ve been looking for 8 months… I’ve applied for over 100 positions and had one first round interview.

There is definitely trouble in the CS job market right now. I spoke to a recruiter who had no new jobs on their desk in two months.

  • I still remember using Windows machine for the first time after only having a Commodore 64 and Nintendos. I specifically remember thinking it was dumb because it didn’t have a cartridge slot.
