  • Modern rockets have only been a thing for 70 years. 8 years is nothing. That would be like saying Rivian or Tesla can’t compete with Ford because they haven’t been making cars as long. Tesla didn’t have to spend a decade making the Model A or T before it figured out how to make cars effectively. Honda will also be able to spend less time making it to orbit than SpaceX did.

  • I don’t think they do actually. Most of the super religious people in my family are Southern Baptist, they all firmly believe that they have a duty to spread the word of god because everybody living has to have been given the option to accept Jesus before the rapture can happen.

    They are seriously a death cult who seriously want the rapture to happen and seriously believe they have a part in making it happen.

  • I think I would be more okay with having to undo a screw or two as long as it was still just as easy to get the battery out. The way the Advance SP and DSs handled it. Lithium batteries are slightly more unfriendly to being handled than AAs and this is a device aimed at children. Your point stands though.

  • You can ask questions in auditorium classes.

    I am going to be honest; I don’t believe you. I genuinely don’t believe that in a class with more people than minutes in the session that a person could legitimately have time to interact with the professor.

    The 60 person class I referred to was a required lecture portion freshman science class with a smaller lab portion. That we could ask questions in the lab was the only reason 60 people was okay in the lecture and even then the professor said he felt it was too many people.

  • WTF? 300? There were barely 350 people in my graduating class of high school and that isn’t a small class for where I am from. The largest class size at my college was maybe 60. No wonder people use LLMs. Like, that’s just called an auditorium at that point, how could you even ask a question? Self-guided isn’t supposed to mean “solo”.

  • I appreciate this argument when Idiocracy comes up but I feel it misses the overall point;

    They had to get to that point before the time when the movie takes place so at some point in the past there was a worse government than President Camacho’s.

  • I guess what I don’t understand is what changed? Is everything homework now? When I was in school, even college, a significant percentage of learning was in class work, pop quizzes, and weekly closed book tests. How are these kids using LLMs so much for class if a large portion of the work is still in the classroom? Or is that just not the case anymore? It’s not like ChatGPT can handwrite an essay in pencil or give an in person presentation (yet).

  • Where I am from several years ago the city renamed the Christmas Parade to Holiday Parade in a bid to be inclusive of other winter holidays. A small subset of citizens got butt hurt and have held a competing Christmas Parade several times.

    Apparently the war on Christmas is acknowledging that there are other options.

  • There are but unless they are like shooting off big fireworks or teenagers having a party the police won’t care which means I would have to make it a civil thing and frankly we would just rather move as that’s already the plan anyway, or was until the pandemic…
