  • One of the reasons Hillary lost (aside from that asshole James Comey) was that a significant percentage of this country doesn't believe a woman can lead, and not all of those disbelievers are Republicans.

  • Well, Business Insider did link to flightradar, which shows that the flight in question (they said this past Thursday, which was the 8th) did in fact divert and return to the originating airport at Bangkok on that day. Which isn't necessarily great evidence, but it's better than nothing.

  • I'm going to toss in:

Vote411.org, the site was established and is run by the League of Women Voters, an organization that has worked for over a century in registering voters, providing voter information, and advocating for voting rights. They provide information about the candidates and their stances on different issues. A candidate may choose not the provide answers to their standardized questions, but then I would question what the candidate is trying to hide.

ISideWith: answer a bunch of multiple-choice questions about your values, goals and opinions, and they'll tell you how well each candidate 'matches' your opinions. There are often additional questions if you'd like to refine your stance beyond the original options given.

  • Oh, the loser who was on the Minneapolis city council for years before becoming mayor and then doing shit-all for a couple years before multiple cops in his city murdered George Floyd? The city that had so many civil rights violations that they're now operating under a consent decree? Why should I care what that guy says?

  • Oh, I didn't think you were! It's just I know that with wild animals, they'll kill them if they eat humans, and I've known people who are squicked out by the idea of having a pet that might've eaten someone. And I wanted to (a) let my friends know it was okay with me and (b) feel out their opinions in case someone would be squicked out if it happened. I know that is incredibly unlikely to ever happen, but it is a possibility and I wanted to account for that in whatever arrangements I set up for the cats.

  • The Israelis also claimed there was a Hamas base under a cemetery, but their claims about the location were disproven by CNN: entrances weren't where the Israelis said they were, and tunnels didn't run where the Israelis said they did. Just briefly glancing at this article, I see that the reporters did not or were not given the opportunity to verify several Israeli claims, including

“Twenty meters above us is the UNRWA headquarters,” and "The military said Saturday night that the tunnel began at a UNRWA school"

I'd like to see more evidence before believing Israel here. Especially since they haven't shown the 'UNWRA staff participated in the October attacks' evidence to the UN or several other countries.

Israel claims a tunnel ran through this Gaza cemetery it destroyed. A visit to the site raised more questions than answers. Or if you prefer video: IDF says they destroyed this Gaza graveyard because of Hamas activity. CNN can't find the evidence.

  • If you're trying to learn a somewhat common second language where you live, and you want to supplement / reinforce other learning, I'd suggest changing how you watch television. Instead of watching, say, Stargate (bc someone mentioned it below) in English, watch it with the German soundtrack and English subtitles. You'll still be entertained, but you'll be learning as well.

You can also do something similar, usually with more language options, if you borrow movie DVDs from your library.

  • He's appealing, but he's had to turn the money over to the court for them to hold onto while he appeals.

He plans to appeal this verdict as well, but getting the money together to do so may prove harder. I read an article on the complexities but can't find it. There were all sorts of potential problems, especially given the expected judgement from his NY fraud trial: he doesn't have enough actual cash on hand, his political money has some limits on it (and there's not enough anyway), there aren't many NY authorized bondsmen approved for that amount of money and those that are won't like his history of stiffing creditors, reputable institutions won't like lending to someone who traditionally stiffs them, it's unlikely anyone will accept his real estate as collateral because the fraud trial is likely to dissolve his NY real estate empire and repayment would be tied up for years, etc, etc. So getting the money from reputable sources is going to be difficult, and there'll be a lot of scrutiny on where the money comes from. My best guess is that he'll do some public money laundering like he did before: offer more shitty NFTs or maybe trump-crypto or something, and the Russians and Saudis will invest in their very own potential US President - you know he'll pull the US out of Ukraine and NATO and whatever else Putin wants.
