  • Then that particular build of the distro is closed source. The linux kernel is still open source.

  • Why are there so many downvotes? Dude said the truth. Signal, like whatsapp, is a single point of failure. It can be enshittified just like whatsapp.

  • You might think that, but creating a third party app is not comes with a lot of hassles. One needs to get license to access the infrastructure.

  • Misskey has a pretty great support for peertube.

  • What's the default font of the browser? Also, have you tried phanpy?

  • I donated with open collective before and it was a pretty smooth experience

  • I will join an HIMYM community if you create one. I am a big fan.

  • I am not entirely sure how appropriate my reply is since you name lemmy specifically, but since one can subscribe to particular topics in piefed, I am leaning towards it more than lemmy as an alternative to reddit.

  • I just use the PWA most of the time. Tuba sometimes on desktop. Tuba is a pretty amazing mastodon client, with a wide range of features.

  • How about misskey? It has character limit, but still you can write a lot (2000 character limit). There are also channels.

You can give it a try and see if it is for you.

  • that's a whole other kettle of fish

I will use that liberally from now on. An upvote from me.

Yes, people very much misunderstand thus stuff.

  • For the social part of the Snapchat, it has a couple of features. Like locations, stories, streaks (which a few in my uni was too much into for some reason). And, let's be honest, Snapchat was used a lot for sending nudes back in the day, though I doubt OP was asking for that feature.

  • It's still in the early days of development and you will probably have to wait a bit for full AP implementation.

  • Given how likely right wing conservatives tends to spread misinformation and cite low quality sources, I honestly don't mind the lack of right wingers.

  • If you want quote post right now, without having to wait for mastodon to implement it, why not just use misskey or any other *key fork.

  • I would really love a more globalized development for misskey, but it is easier said than done. Majority of bug reports, release notes and even some comments are written in Japanese (yk kana/Kanji). It would take a lot more than translating the documentation. It is hard to even report a bug (without worrying if there is a bug report already present in Japanese) let alone fix one.
