  • I don't want RCS on my phone. I would rather use an open standard like XMPP or Matrix. But Big G's behavior in this regard is very toxic and monopolistic. Also, I believe for a truly free mobile experience, we should support linux mobile, rather than android ROMs

  • MySpace is so old that I don't know what it looks like.

  • I cannot agree more with you.

  • I am just telling you the reason they cited. I don't exactly agree with them. There was a bias from the mods. Although, personally, don't like futo.

check out the modlog (6 hrs ago): https://lemmy.ml/modlog

  • Looking at the modlog, they were deleted citing resaon (mostly) offtopic. Altough, it was a little odd.

  • Wow, reddit migration killed kbin? Did all of them just flocked to a single server?

  • set up a monthly contribution even if it’s just $2/month

I remember somewhere on the fedi, some instance admin saying that on average it cost $2/month per user. So, if you are relatively active on the server, $2 monthly recurring donation might cover your share of expenses. maybe not a very good idea

how I can make a difference

  • All fedi network = Mastodon, Threads, BlueSky, Nostr
Because, lemmy, misskey, pixelfed, mbin, friendica etc are not part of fedi network

  • my understanding was all modern phones have gps even without cell service. Outdoor mapping without GPS will be very hard. You might try to position PoI roughly based on the position of streets and other features. Maybe, you can fix the edits later at home using sattelite imagery. Also, try posting this on https://community.osm.org/

  • Yes, that is correct. Although, calling it a flaw was a bit wrong on my part. It us by design. Paraphrasing someone on the internet: activitypub federation is pull rather than push. The downside of this is, some info will never reach you. The upside is: self hosting activitypub software is possible even with limited resources.

    1. Don't know
    2. That is a flaw in activitypub. The federation makes it look like you are the only one following that account because that's the only information your home instance can gather from the network. As they post new stuff you will see them. Give it some time for your server to federate with their server and you will probably see more details like their profile picture
    3. That sound like a bug in the app
  • What they are doing is essentially promotion. So that, or something along the line is more appropriate.

  • The thing that I hate about the bridge is that, I need to separately bridge my account with bluesky to interact with a bluesky account bridged to fediverse.

  • I don't know if you know about it, but there's this new community !growthefediverse@slrpnk.net They got some nice discussion about how to on-board more people on here.

  • With so many examples like twitter, reddit, Factbook, whatsapp, instagram etc. can you really blame us for not liking centralized services? Also, I don't hate all centralized services. I love Wikipedia, Openstreetmap.org etc. Also, the outage of OSM earlier proves that single point of failure is a reason for concern.

  • I have noticed that translation of closely related languages are better in Firefox. Although I also feel that is true foe almost all translators
