  • There is just so much time in a day and I think nostalgia does come to play with this as well. Gaming tends to correlate to being younger and having more free time, so by playing the same games you did back then you're reliving those days.

Just a thought anyway, I tend to play older games as well, but also newer games like Baldur's gate 3 or Path of Exile 2.

  • I don't think anything that they did to this lady was legal but for her to attend the funeral and then admit that to the agents seems like a exceedingly bad decision.

I'm kinda mystified why you'd attend a funeral of such a figure, take a bunch of pictures of you there(?), and fly back to the USA with the administration currently in place and not expect a shitshow. Is this an extreme version of 'don't talk to the cops' or was this lady just very naive? Even as a US citizen I'd probably wipe my phone before flying back to the US just to avoid anything weird popping up if it was searched.

  • It's sad that even the idea of a very high tax rate for even the top 0.1% is off the table. I really like the suggestion of capping net worth at $999 million and the government gets the rest.

  • And by far most of these booing voters will just vote for this very same guy again the next time he's up for reelection. Rural voters have been so predictable it's why these politicians can just walk away from town halls like this, they know they still have the votes.

  • I'd wager this is all because of some innocent comment she made about her tattoos and the agent jumped on it. Just like a cop, the agent was probably being friendly to get her to talk and got her to admit she did some tattoo work the last time she was there. Remember everyone only answer direct and relevant questions, anything else they ask is just trying to find a reason to screw you over!

Once the German embassy is getting involved though, she should have been released immediately but it's clear this administration likes the power trip too!

Even the garbage about not letting her go back to Mexico is crazy, I know they do that all the time without proof of residency. This agent definitely had it out for her!

Even a few years ago, maybe 2017, I was at JFK airport and lady somehow was getting off a plane from London and couldn't find her passport, the agents got worked up but released her after some kind of back and forth where she had to appear with her passport in a couple of days (or something). Somehow the passport was in her luggage that had been checked in, IDK.

  • Really it's not. Grocery chains carry good alternatives even in really rural areas nowadays. If you haven't tried one in the last few years the options out now are quite a bit better. I typically use Planet Oat in my coffee.

  • Maybe it will get people to start drinking plant based milk if the price of course milk skyrockets like it has with eggs. All the IGF-1 in dairy isn't good for you and could even be part of the reason for the rise in colorectal cancer (the amount of dairy we consume nowadays in nuts).

  • I think those are related to survivor benefits. Like an old man marrying a young woman in the 40's. Like the civil war vets marrying woman in the 20th century. The last civil war widow was getting benefits until she died in 2020. But still the same basic issue.

But in that case the old man isn't getting benefits but just is needed as a reference for the person actually getting them.

  • It's because that explanation isn't correct. The real deal is you just have entries without a death date, so if you ran a query this get super old ages as a result.

Note that isn't a database of payments or even people eligible for them, just a listing of 'everyone' with a SSN. There is a separate master death index. In the old days, wild west kind of stuff people would disappear so the death date would never get entered. Modern days every morgue and funeral home has to legally notify SS when someone dies, there is a specific form and major hell to pay if you don't do it.
