If we chose a non-federated platform to move to, then it is possible to add ActivityPub (i.e. federation stuff) at a later time. However, it would require persons that are skilled enough to do it. In my estimation, this could be several years away if we chose to move to a non-federated platform. IMO, there are too many 'ifs' involved in order to give a more precise answer.

I hear you and understand where you are coming from. If I were to dig down into every single product, that I use in my day-to-day existence, then I'd probably find dirt everywhere. I'm not sure what I'd do at that point. Throw the baby out with the bathwater? It's a tough position to be in.

Sorta the same here. Car camping equipment, wilderness camping stuff and mountain hiking gear over 10 years for a family of four. Estimation is $15,000 - $20,000 easy.

I used Facebook in the early stages of its development and then I left because of its privacy agreements. I was a beta tester of Orkut and left that for similar reasons.

I started using Reddit only for the niche interest group of academic biblical scholarship. I went on to found /r/AskBibleScholars where over 200 vetted scholars field questions from Redditors.

I'm, currently, working with @Penguincoder@beehaw.org to bring non-Redditors the same scholarship access as mentioned above.

I haven't used any other social media.
