  • This is a very insightful and informed take. TBH, I did NOT do my due diligence of critical thinking before posting this article. I've succumbed to knee jerk reactions once again.

  • The rules would reclassify broadband access as an essential service on par with other utilities like water or power.

Well, it is a fucking public utility and has been for a long time!

  • Our only rule at Beehaw is to be(e) nice. Your comment is not nice. Enjoy a seven day vacation from Beehaw.

  • We will come up with the best plan(s) that we can to make this as smooth a transition as possible.

  • If you can access counselling for this, that might be a good option. Vicarious trauma is a real phenomenon.

Thank you for the advice. I'm not sure that I'll need counseling but I'm open to it if need be. Time will tell.

  • I'd be willing to consider either and would love your, particular, feedback on this as well.

  • This is so sad...many impoverished human beings without access to proper nutrition nor the knowledge of it. So many things stacked against them. Please, consider making regular contributions to your local food banks.

  • When we moving to another platform again?

Several months from now. We need time to test out about 4-5 different platforms and get feedback from the community.

  • We're having some technical difficulties with backups and such. Things should be back to normal sometime later today. Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the crappy Lemmy software that runs this site. We'll, more than likely, be leaving the Lemmy platform in the next several months.

  • I often have to wear woke t-shirts and bling as fascist repellent

    LMFAO!

  • I've thought about this phenomenon before and have a theory. To preface my self, I remember wondering (many years ago) why people tended to behave differently online than in real life. I remember thinking something like: "Would so-and-so speak this way if we were sitting at a table together?". Then the theory dawned on me. Maybe it's the physical distance that takes down the social norms when engaging someone online. I believe it's something that happens unconsciously as well.

  • I remember hearing Bulls on Parade for the first time. It gave me so much passion and a feeling of wanting to go out on the streets to protest.

Many years has passed and I realized that so many humans have had a variety of experiences in history based on wealth. When you make many attempts to get through Wealth Shown to Scale, then you can begin to process what's really going on here.

It's not easy but it is liberating in the end. Years ago, I accepted to just celebrate and enjoy life the best that I can while sharing that with as many people as possible.

  • I’ll follow beehaw wherever it goes…

    Thank you...that means a lot.

  • This is addressed in the OP:

As for alternatives we’re seriously considering right now: they’re basically all FOSS; would preserve most aspects of the current experience while giving us less to worry about on the backside of things (and/or lowering the bar for code participation); are pretty much all more mature and feature-rich than Lemmy; and generally seem to avoid the issues we’re talking about at length here. Downsides are varied but the main commonality is lack of federation; entropy in moving; questions of how sustainable they are with our current mod team; and more cosmetic things like customization and modification.

We’re currently investigating the most promising of them in greater depth—but we don’t want to list something and then have to strike it, hence the vagueness.

  • I appreciate the support. We are doing our due diligence to find a better path for Beehaw. It may not be perfect, in the eyes of every participant, but it will be better.

  • ...what does worry me is whether or not the platform Beehaw migrates to is better maintained than Lemmy.

We will not move from the US civil war (i.e. Lemmy) to world war 3 (i.e. apocalypse).

  • I'm on board with something like this, yes.
