  • I think anyone arguing that would eventually fall back to not so defined standards to make their point.

Ultimately, from my point of view, I am a developer who makes software that others will take advantage of to make their own profits. I have not made any ground breaking projects yet, but I am working on one the past year, and hope to have it widely used. Maybe it will, maybe not

But, my viewpoint is that users are greedy, they want everything for nothing. I also need users to want to use my stuff. Its a delicate balancing act.

I think ultimately, the op source code did it wrong in the beginning, if they had layered their work more, some of it open source, some closed source, they would not have the backlash now.

Maybe one day my own stuff will have similar controversy, or not! Either way, if people call my own stuff not open source enough, and I am looking at my bank account, I do not care

  • I have a totally different view, if I can use it in my own projects, that are released with an MIT or Apache 2 or similar license, then its open source.

Not that I want to, but I could contribute to draw.io, or fork it and privately make changes, then make money off either the original repo or my fork, and its legal.

I could sell one line of code change for a million dollars and then start writing daily taunting letters, daring them to sue me, and I would be fine.

How is that not open source?

    1. None of the Work may be used in any form as part, or whole, of an integration, plugin or app that integrates with Atlassian's Confluence or Jira products.

its just the apache 2 license with a restriction to not sell this project on one marketplace. Can still sell the code elsewhere. Its still totally open source, and honestly Confluence is not something I would loose sleep on. Jira has been a cash cow for a long time, and I have a beef with them anyway

  • My superpower is avoiding too much work, and do only the work needed at the last minute. Obviously this simply will not help in many places.

But high risk, high reward, last minute changes to the job, high stress deadlines fit me pretty good . Don’t ask me to work steadily on a task each day, I’ll probably quit. But I can do the above better than most

  • I never solved it, but I realized earlier that I can play to my strengths instead of fighting my nature. Does this irritate, confuse and inconvenience myself and others sometimes ? Yes

But it has allowed me to do a lot of stuff and be truer to myself over many years. I am less of a conformist , and totally shaped my life and career for this to be an advantage .

  • I’ve leaned so much from example here, and other media, how genocide can be normalized and ignored.

Ignore in one location, and it’s not hard to imagine being ignored elsewhere later. It’s not so much as a moral irritation for me to see the reporting, as hearing a promise of violence closer home. Should circumstances permit. A wake up call.

But this did not come out of a vacuum

  • Another issue I had was hundreds of saved toots having had awesome pictures, important data or things to do.

I saved them hoping to use some later, but it all remained an unorganized glop: unusable unless I looked at each one again, in order, to find the 75th one back, about a cat

  • My big issue is the hidden vote counting, lack of recounts, and the exit polls being so unreliable in many states to choose the winners. So, unreliable, that all the major networks stopped using them after 2018 to call elections and fewer exit polls are being done. Exit polls have been established as good tools since the past 300 years. And when they consistently give bad calls, that area has always had ballot stuffing, or the electronic version of that

In my opinion, hidden ballot counting with bad exit polls will outweigh any other issues

  • Many people who gamble big money go by past divergences between polls done before, and exit polls done after. These can vary between 5% to 10% , which is important when the published count is almost 50:50 in some states.

Many US states violate UN practices for free and fair ballot counting, and while this is blindly ignored for decades, it shows up in the odds. People in the USA tend to talk about this as the shy republican effect, and other names.

At the same time, I do not trust the polls being done now, because most people do not answer phone, text or email about asking, given there are so many scam polls out, so I have to wonder how this skews the results.

I would totally use the bookie odds and ignore the polls

  • I am pretty sure that the attacks on libraries will intensify , but by state backed actors and organized crime mostly, I think? Its going to be rare for a group, driven by beliefs, to have the talent or resources to do much harm. While I think those few that can, often have beliefs that prevent the destruction of public resources such as libraries.

The war against woke and books usually attracts second rate, lazy people who could not code or hack out of a wet paper bag. And while an ideologue who is wealthy can certainly pay for such services, they usually don't for some reason? Why? I have no clue and hope this continues.

  • I have installed Linux on a dozen computers from crummy laptops to custom build with graphics card. Most went fine. For the graphics card one, I installed popos to avoid learning about internals , but I could have spent time to solve it, I was lazy.

But I recommend having several distros on usb to do tests . That way things are easiest. Some installs have default settings that work best for random computers. So just spend a few minutes on each to test sound, WiFi and graphics. 5 minutes on each to test 10 flavors

No need to mess with any text settings at all these days.. I mean, you can

  • So… I’m in Texas , been here a long time.

most ballot counts in the primaries and general are counted by secret software and hardware run by ultra conservative families the last 20 plus years. Recounts are not allowed and exit polls not used anymore because of unpredictability.

Nobody cares, no political party wants to change : not a topic in forums anywhere, even in conspiracy minded chat rooms, and it’s been this way forever ( since before 2000).

There is a ton of crazy that is ignored .

I’ve seen how the system works, I’ve been at the county chair level. Nobody will criticize it . There is a quiet culture of people knowing it’s invalid but decide to leave it be.
