By that side of the coin, the fediverse was definitely not made for you. Did you honestly expect that the fediverse would be pro-corporate social media!? If so I've a slightly used bridge to sell you. The fediverse is anti-corporate and largely anti-authoritarian. Maybe just go back top your Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit then? 😆

I absolutely refuse to use TikTok but let's be honest here in that our own politicians and the decisions that they make that are anti-working class and anti-poor are more of a national security threat than TikTok.

Trumblr is still corporate social media and given a different turn of events would sell you out to get ahead so I don't have any soft place in my heart for that.

I am guessing you probably viewed enough of these videos that YouTube's dumb algorithm is like, "Oh hey @V01t45@lemmy.fmhy.ml wants to see right wing stuff so let's show him that." I agree that it is very annoying. This is why we need to rally behind starting to use PeerTube and cancelling YouTube.

The main advantage of using Linux for your homelab is that you will get a lot more support because most folks here run their homelabs on Linux, BSD, or a combination of both. I run my home lab on a combination of both. Windows Server will probably end up really frustrating you and adding additional needless expense.

For DNS, you can look into a couple of different solutions:

• PiHole
• Run just Unbound
• Run BIND

I personally just run Unbound as it works well for me. Currently, I am thinking about moving to a split-brain DNS and do away with fake .lan internal TLD that I am using, especially now that I have gotten Let's Encrypt's DNS-01 challenge to work properly.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy another inkjet printer, let alone a shitty HP product. Definitely get yourself a Brother laser printer. Brothers are bulletproof.
