  • That sounds a lot like the pot calling the kettle black. Oracle is nothing but a bunch of stark hypocrites. They have absolutely nothing to say on the subject matter of FOSS and open and fair competition. This is just peak corporatism. Oracle is the king of proprietary. They've done NOTHING to contribute to open source. They take, take, take!

  • Essential workers is a cruel fucking joke. Yeah, you aren't gonna score that kind of money. They want you poor and begging for scraps. I am so angry I could holler right now.

  • Of course they would! Corporations do what's in their best interests. Corporations gonna corporate.

  • They block UDP traffic too. I tried some things like that.

  • Anybody that thinks Oracle has been good stewards of the open source community, is completely whacked. They have not. I'll trust RH over Oracle as well.

  • Check out Bookstack. It's a brilliant piece of software that gets out of your way and has a modern look and feel that your family members will like and appreciate. The challenge will be to get them to use it instead of going straight to you. They may find themselves inconvenienced by having to go to a self-help resource. That's a them problem and not a you problem though.

  • Oracle weighing in on anything open source related is peak hypocrisy. Fuck Oracle. They're not our friends.

  • I will have to wait until I can get home from work. Work does deep packet inspection and blocks SSH. I've tried doing SSH on port 993, one I know for a fact is open because I get my email that way on my phone and I still get a connection refused. Bunch of fascists!

  • Cloudflare tunnels would be the easiest/cheapest way to go about it. But always be mindful that if you violate their terms and conditions, you could find yourself with a high bandwidth bill.

  • Yep, that's the plan! Thanks for letting me know. Lemmy is awesome and I am having so much fun with it. I expect it only to get better as the days and weeks progress.

  • I've been distro-hopping for quite a while. I've settled on Arch for the long haul.

  • This is my take on it. I am running Lemmy in a docker using the dessalines image. I hope that there will be an update come this afternoon.

  • I don't know about a Debian-based rolling release. Have you thought about going to Arch. Pacman is a pretty good package management system.

  • I've set my feed to new and browse by all as well.

  • Oh that's pretty cool that you don't actually have to have a separate account for a Lemmy server!

  • I usually do a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast. Sometimes on the weekends I'll do chocolate chip pancakes. Yeah, real exciting I know.
