  • I didn't care much about Michael Jackson when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, but I came to appreciate his talent more once I was older. Aside from some of the other things that were already mentioned, he was known for some insanely unique and distinctive dance moves, and everyone wanted to do them. You know how kids these days are 'dabbing' or doing these dances that they saw on fortnight or wherever? Where did any of those popular moves originate from? I have no idea. But when you saw someone doing a Michael Jackson move, you knew EXACTLY who it came from.

  • I've found that as I got older, my taste in games has narrowed significantly. I used to be able to play pretty much anything, or especially any popular or critically acclaimed games. But these days I just don't give a shit about most of what's out there. I do have certain genres and developers that interest me though, so I know there are occasionally going to be some new games that I really like. And every now and then I might get surprised by something too.

  • USA, I've been using a $2.50/month plan from Red Pocket, but this thread reminded me that I need to renew for the coming year, and it appears the price has gone up to $3.75/month now. If that's really the case, I'm not exactly pleased about that.

It's just a bare bones plan with 200 minutes, 1000 texts, and 200MB of data. But I'm usually at home on Wi-Fi and I just use a Google voice number so I never really eat into the minutes or texts. I pretty much only use the data for emergencies like if I'm out driving somewhere and I wasn't able to plan and look up maps ahead of time.

  • If you want to get non-techy users, then there is absolutely no need to even use the word fediverse or to try to explain what any of this means. If you want to help a friend get onboard, just send them a link to sign up on the same server that you use, or a nice general purpose server. That's it. They sign up, they use it, and THEN they can start to learn about fediverse shit if they care to.

  • Lol, it weighs a couple of pounds. I remember trying to strap it to my head somehow, but it was just too heavy to stay up. You would need some kind of shoulder harness or something. Then if you were to lay on your back with it, the thin foam around the goggles just gives away and you got a block of heavy plastic pressing into your face.

  • My wife normally mutes them, but I generally don't care enough to pick up the remote and push the mute button. I just tune them out and use it as a chance to grab a snack or go to the bathroom, or just check stuff on my phone.

  • The game was in a pretty rough state when they relaunched it, but they have been slowly improving it a bit at a time (it often feels like 2 steps forward, 1 step back). I feel like the game is in a pretty good spot though. I enjoy it and am looking forward to season 4.

  • Well, one that maybe went full circle for me is "bring the pain" by mindless self indulgence. At first, it just seemed like a really fun song that I loved. Then one day, a black dude was in my car listening with me, and he was like "wtf is this song about?". That's when it hit me that the song actually sounds REALLY racist. I looked up the lyrics and that just confirmed it for me. And then years later, I found out it was actually a cover of a method man song, and not really racist at all, I guess. But thats a weird one, maybe best not for white guys to be singing it...

  • A lot of times when translating articles, and going for click bait headlines, things get mangled. I was searching for where Sakurai may have said he was not making another smash game, and I can't find anything like that. On the contrary, I am seeing articles saying things like he can't see another smash game happening without his involvement: https://www.si.com/esports/fgc/new-super-smash-bros-game-sakurai

But regardless, it's easy to get burned out on something and feel like you never want to touch it again. Then a few years later your feelings on the matter change. It's happened to me. Doesn't mean someone "is full of shit".

  • No clue. While I don't drink coffee, I did drink caffeinated sodas for a large part of my life. One day I just decided to stop drinking soda. I felt no sort of addiction or withdrawal symptom.

  • There are a few communities on there which I still check, but I spend a significantly less amount of time on Reddit than I used to. I also refuse to post anything or interact on that site anymore.

I use these sites to see what races are on my local ballot and to get an idea about who is running. If you need more info, you might search on some of your local news stations or newspaper websites.

For the major races, like President or Congress, hopefully you have already decided by now.
